    Bread Alternatives

I'm ok with Morrisons high protein bread which is low carb. Also, I ordered lo-dough when I went on holiday as I knew I'd struggle with daily picnics having just salad every day and I also knew there was only a tiny shop on the island. Wasn't brill as a bread, but amazing as a pizza, and as...

    Type 2 Beverage

I drink both - with coffee I have a latte of a morning and tea the rest of the day. I have discovered though that having a cup of tea whilst eating my lunch or tea can send my readings up. Which I think is odd, particularly as a latte has no impact on my morning readings!

Likelihood of GD going away after birth?

Hi, I had GD eight years ago and it went away after birth. I have a HBA1C annually and this year I've been diagnosed with T2D. However our family does have a genetic predisposition to getting it in our 50s (I'm 50 next year). Fingers crossed it disappears for you!

Type 2 Diabetes: NHS to offer 800 cal diet

I've been having by HBA1C done annually since having my daughter 7 years ago - and it's always been ok until I was consuming about 600 calories a day for about 4 months. I'd had an op which meant I couldn't eat, and whilst I drank, it was bloomin hard work! I wasn't overweight, but I did lose a...

    Is diabetes hereditary?

I've recently been diagnosed with T2D. My mother was diagnosed in her sixties, but hadn't been tested previously so could have had it earlier. Her father developed it when he was older and his father has it as a cause of death on his death certificate. My mum probably had gestational diabetes -...

    Is Porridge safe

I'm fine with porridge. I sprinkle cinnamon on it, which I love. Only been testing a couple of weeks, but it's not spiked at all during that time.

Trying low carb and not taking Metformin

I've recently been diagnosed. I've been low carb for the past 12 months and had been using sweet potatoes wedges instead of having chips - been self testing for a couple of weeks and discovered they send my sugars high. As does having a hot drink with lunch or tea (bizarrely breakfast is OK!)...

    Hello ... new person here!

Sent that and forgot to say, I've been to see the Diabetic lead at the GP today. With the family history and my levels increasing when I lost a lot of weight post op, she has suggested Metformin. She's given me the prescription and told me to go away and think about it. So, I'm thinking about it!

    Hello ... new person here!

Ooooh, hello fellow Lancastrian! I'm just on the border with North Yorkshire. I had been mainly having strawberries as my small person consumes vast quantities of them, so we always have them in. Plus I'd have a bag of mixed frozen berries and chuck some of them in. Not had a smoothie for a few...

    Hello ... new person here!

Thank you all very much! Wiflib - no, not in Leicester, am oop north in Lancashire, as is my mum but she was part of a study so I guess they didn't stick to one location. A very kind offer, thank you! Bluetit - I have been making breakfast smoothies with avocado and whatever fruit is in the...

    Hello ... new person here!

Hi, thanks all. I can monitor carbs, fat and protein on myfitnesspal, but wouldn't know how to monitor fructose and fibre? I do have to be careful not to eat too much fibre though, but I don't actively monitor how much of it I have. I know the low carb works for my mum, so I knew he was chatting...

    Hello ... new person here!

Hi, so have been to see GP this morning as my hba1c was 47. "So, Diabetes is all about getting your weight under control," said this man who had never met me before and obviously only had had a cursory glance at my notes. "You need to cut out processed foods and walk for half an hour four...
