    The Daily Mail Strikes Again

Your thoughts please. According to an article in the Daily Wail, we need to eat at least 80 percent of our calories before 1pm; the article also helpfully includes at the end the diagram of the NHS Eatwell plate. I hope there's no real scientific evidence for this claim because I rarely feel...

    A GP's Take on T2 Self-Monitoring

I was carrying out a bit of personal diabetes research this morning (basically diving in and out of internet black holes) and came across this from 2020:- https://evidence.nihr.ac.uk/collection/diabetes/ It has some interesting patient and professional perspectives about T2, but the standout...

    Who’s to blame ?

Based on my own experience of one of those courses, I'd say that's par for the course (pun!). The one I attended (thankfully curtailed by the pandemic) was run by a woman who couldn't answer the most basic questions, saying she wasn't medically qualified. I suppose it's better she was honest...

A glitch in the matrix or something to be concerned over

Does a glass of wine with a meal reduce the effects of carbohydrates or simply mask them?

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Thank you. I feel a trip to my local Waitrose coming on.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Apologies for butting in, but what are seedy crackers? I've sworn off crackers for cheese, but if there's a low carb alternative near me I'd love to know about it. (I'm on the Hampshire coast.)

    Type 2 Carbs per day

Thank you for posting that. I found the link in the article to the "Woodshed" very informative - not only for us, but for any "healthy" person fighting obesity.

    Success with low carb meatloaf

On the subject of ketchup, Aldi and Waitrose do own brand reduced sugar ketchup (the Waitrose offering is reduced sugar and salt), at a a considerably lower price than the branded item. Other stores probably also have their own branded reduced sugar ketchup; I'm just one of those who flit...

    Erythritol

Thank you for your responses and recipes. It seems, then, using the 100% erythritol doesn't fall into the "Frankenstein food" category, which was my main concern (together with the price, that is).

    Erythritol

Puddings are obligatory when we visit; he loves his puddings and they're part and parcel of the day for him, together with me busy in the kitchen and my OH doing odd jobs round the house; family stuff. TBH, I think he might have been slightly disappointed with my berries and cream offerings...

    Erythritol

"School puddings" are my weakness - chocolate sponge and pink custard, jam roly-poly, gypsy tart, apple pie - you name it, I love it. Despite this, pre-diagnosis puddings like this were an occasional treat, and post-diagnosis in May completely off the menu. However, we have a widowed elderly...

    Coffee

Hello and welcome. Unfortunately, oat milk has a high glycemic index and isn't a good choice for people coping with diabetes.

2 days in and it's very confusing!

Click on your name at the top right at the top right of this page, scroll down to Account Details and further down that page you'll see 'Type of diabetes'. Also, when I was first diagnosed I found this blog post a very helpful steer when it comes to what to eat. These days I follow the...

2 days in and it's very confusing!

I'd be inclined to get a meter ASAP; the doctor's results will be informative, but with a diagnosis of diabetes the main thing is to get on top of what you can eat without any spikes and whatever foods are the equivalent of BG dynamite for you. There's plenty of information on this site about...

2 days in and it's very confusing!

I'm eating whatever doesn't leave my BG monitor having an attack of the vapours two hours after a meal, and testing the same at least three times just to be on the safe side. Can't comment on the kebab meat, but hot chilli sauce tends to be very low in carbs and Tabasco has none.

I usually I usually deglaze with vegetable water, crumble in an Oxo cube, and thicken with cornflour. So far, so good - no spikes yet.

2 days in and it's very confusing!

Dumb question #99: What is the problem with gravy? I appreciate we all have different triggers, but I've never seen a spike which could be attributed to gravy.
