Advice needed - what to do at work!

The first night I used insulin in my pump, I was asked to wake and test every 2 hours. Had to because my basal rate ended up being too high with the improved absorption with the pump. After that, things became normal very quickly.

    Unsupportive Spouse

32 hours is only just short of full time and you're running around after children. Doing more housework may be fair enough, but not having to pick up after another adult. The red flag is the arguments and the verbal abuse, not doing more housework and childcare, plenty of couples split the work...

    Unsupportive Spouse

I think the diabetes is a red herring. He's not very nice and if you were posting this on Mumsnet instead (for example), posters would be pointing out how he's taking you completely for granted. It might be that he has worries of his own but he's being really unkind, lazy and selfish. Is it...

    Type 1 and Weight Loss

I would NOT suggest increasing activity on the basis that you'll lose weight. There's a saying, you can't outrun your fork, which is sadly true. Increase activity to improve your fitness, because it's good for your mental health, whatever - just not with an expectation that you'll lose more than...

Advice needed - what to do at work!

I'd take it as annual leave. A week is a long time and I'd be concerned about what I'd do if I had a serious health event and needed to take more sick leave and then ended up going over the company sickness policy. Second other commenters in wondering WTH you need a week for though - mine took...

    Insulin before exercise

Depends on the exercise. I would normally do it, because I have to fit it in when I can, but I would tuck into jelly babies before, take some with me and turn off the pump for the duration.

    Question about fast acting insulin

When I was diagnosed, I was told to inject 10 minutes before. (I rarely do that, but that's another thread..!) It can be really dangerous though; food can be delayed even when you're making it yourself, let alone in a restaurant. You need a bit of time being conservative and recording meals and...

Yep, everything is very over-packaged. I worry if it's going to be difficult to find pumps etc once plastic becomes more expensive.

Calling type 1 runners - Swansea Half marathon

babies every 3 or so miles. And then at finish, a bolus of a unit or so to make up for stopped basal. Sorry, pressed send too quickly!

Calling type 1 runners - Swansea Half marathon

Running strategy... I would start with no insulin on board (but need breakfast, so would get up early so it's out of my system by start time). I'd have a small amount of really fast acting carbs just before the start e.g. small mixer can of Coke and turn my pump down to 10% of normal basal...

    Type 1'stars R Us

Hello. Think this is my first post on this thread. Is there any discussion anywhere on diabetic consumables and sustainability? Every time I change a pump site, I think, so much plastic, so little recyclable... Do any of the manufacturers even have a statement or position on this? I suppose I...

    Travelling with Type 1 Diabetes

Insulin isn't affected by cabin pressure, but the pump may be, see article below. https://mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSTRE77I6EU20110819 Also, if you have a pump that connects to a meter wirelessly like some of the Medtronics, you are supposed to put the pump in aeroplane mode...

What do you expect from an artificial pancreas?

I would like something that takes away some of the mental load. Having type 1 is like carrying a baby around with you and informs almost all the decisions I make. I would also like it to be a bit more "all in one" than any of the current solutions, official or open source. I hate having so many...

    HELP NEEDED!

Hi, I have just got a new 640g and really like it, it's an improvement on my Animas Vibe. I thought it would be quite big, but it's fine for me to wear the same way I wore my Vibe, tucked in the front of my bra. Having said that, tubey pumps can be annoying. The cannula has got caught and...

Tooth loss with type 1 diabetes

Low levels of vitamin D, which is really common in the UK, can mean problems with teeth as it is used to metabolise calcium. Maybe get it checked? I've known 2 ladies with dental problems due to this.

    Newly diagnosed and reeling

I was diagnosed at almost 32. It was a shock but not entirely unexpected as late onset type 1 is something of a family curse and I'd had a clue that some of my symptoms could point to that. My GP called it correctly straight away and I spent the night in hospital having my bg stabilised. Even...
