    Cake

Here's @Brunneria 's coffee and walnut cake (beautiful it is not!) I'm taking it to my t2 mother in law tomorrow for her birthday - let's hope it tastes better than it looks!

    HbA1c

The thing I miss most is a toasted fruit bun with butter on it. After my last Hba1c I had two for my breakfast, and 2 hours later I was 8.5, so not horrendous, but higher than I would like.

    Patient access

After joining this forum I wrote a quick note to the practice manager asking for access to my test results. About an hour later someone phoned me and said she had set it up... and she had! The practice uses patient access, but they have stopped everyone making appointments on line (as too...

    Cake

I confess I didn't look further than the first recipe (and I hate liver!) but there are some nice recipes on that page... yum

I'd like the carrot cake recipe please :)

    Cake

I want to make a low carb cake. I've looked on line and the amount of recipes is mind boggling. Does anyone have a tried and trusted recipe they'd like to share? TIA

Going on holiday - I met someone

No, this isn't a romance! A guy was sitting next to me on the plane and commented that he couldn't have anything from the in flight service as he is diabetic. Me too! I said. He was T1, I am T2. He asked if I had heard of a low carb diet... yes, I've been doing that for 6 months since I...

Thanks for saying so. :) You are doing really well too. Keep up with the weight loss and off those carbs. Before you know it, it will be a new way of life, not a diet at all.

Type 2 on no meds hypo?

I have had such a bad week, following the death of my father after a long illness, lots of family complications (and rows) I have been under so much stress. For 5 days I only ate one meal a day, OK, that's fasting I thought. Yesterday I ate nothing at all, but I did drink (plenty) of wine in...

Prof Roy Taylor's work on reversing type 2 diabetes

A friend of mine had been basically following the Atkins diet on and off for years. She continually put weight on, and many people (myself included) tried to dissuade her from following this high fat diet. About 3 years ago she was diagnosed with type 2, her DN tried telling her not to eat a...

I bought Micheal Mosley's book "the 8 week blood sugar recipe book" I didn't have a meal plan but basically followed a lot of the recipes in there. Like a lot of people, when I was first diagnosed I knew what not to eat, but it was difficult to know what I could eat. It gave me lots of ideas...

Getting the results is not a problem. I'm in the UK and I just log in and and see my results on line. It's the 7 week wait to "talk to the DN" about it which I object to... especially as I know there's nothing she can tell me. I've done fine without following her advice :)

Type 2 (Metformin and Gliclazide) absence disciplinary

I used to work for a large supermarket and one of their rules was that if you were off sick 3 occasions in a (rolling) year, you would get a verbal warning. After I was off sick the third time I was called into a meeting and my line manager looked at my record and realised that the second time...

No they don't. I don't know why as they seem to be a good idea. I once phoned asking to speak to the duty doctor and was told he would only speak to someone concerning a life threatening emergency (which this wasn't). It seems common sense to me to spend a couple of minutes on the phone...

I just had a phone call from the surgery. The DN would like to see me about my blood test results, but the next available appointment is 2nd October!!!!!!!!!!! I asked the receptionist if it was really worth waiting all that time, and she said there is no one else who can see me. I don't...

    Unsure

My optician told me my vision had improved so much that I didn't need to wear my glasses for distance :( which was really weird, having driven with glasses for about 30 years! She said she would retest me after 6 months (in September) but it was actually only a matter of weeks before my sight...

I got my results on line this afternoon. I haven't made an appointment to see the DN. She is just useless, I found her really negative. The nurse who took the blood asked if I had an appointment and when I said no, she said if there were any problems someone from the surgery would contact...

I was diagnosed in Feb, given metformin and gliclazide in March. Stopped taking them around the end of April (much to my DN's disgust - she threatened me with insulin if I wouldn't take the tablets!) I have been low carbing almost since diagnosis. Since my last blood test I have spent 10...

    Blood test

Thanks all. I'm not sure how much water I can drink tonight, as I will spend all night on the loo :) but I'll make sure I drink a very big glass as soon as I get up tomorrow. Fingers crossed it goes better
