    T1's, drinking and clubs

It's your own personal preference really, personally I would bolus before the first beer (I'm on the pump so can bolus half units) and check glucose and bolus every 2 hours after that, otherwise I'd be injecting and testing constantly, if I done a test and it was say, over 14.0, I'd stop...

    T1's, drinking and clubs

Largely depends on what you're actually drinking, I'm not a heavy drinker myself, usually only have 2 or 3 beers, which is around 30grams of carbs, I think DAFNE advises that you should usually take half the amount you would usually take for carbs if you're taking them in with alcohol (in my...

    Islet Cell Transplant

I lost hypo awareness around 5 years ago, so I could be sitting typing this reponse and my blood glucose level could be 1.8, I still function normally until it get to around the 1.2 level, then I tend to collapse, remain conscious for around a couple of minutes and then slip into unconciousness...

    Islet Cell Transplant

Hope you're feeling better soon, I'm currently off the tranplant list as I've been allocated funding for a pump which i start in a couple of weeks, hoping that the pump will work out for me so i don't have to go through with transplant, that is my main fear, side effects from the...

Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pump?

Re: Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pum 8 quid for a lightbulb? 3 grand for a laptop? Sorry but i just don't believe that at all, I know the NHS has it's faults but I'm not believing a word of that. The reason pumps are so expensive is that only a very very select few...

Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pump?

Re: Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pum It's not intravenous, they go nowhere near a vein.

    Taking of blood.

This works for me but it may be hogwash, I have rubbish veins, and it's sometimes a struggle to get blood, one time I had just drank a litre of water, and it was the most painless and easy time I had ever had, so now I make sure I'm well hydrated before getting blood drawn, it has worked for me...

Stopped taking insulin - blood sugars fine. Advice!!

To echo what everyone else is saying, you must take insulin, even if it's a small amount of background insulin, you need glucose to feed your body, even although you are on a carb free diet you will still be taking in glucose, some proteins convert to glucose I think in the body, therefore if...

    Dealing with Hypo Pain

Hi twedspeed, I get the headaches after a hypo, I call them "rebound headaches"! I was on Lantus for years and they were really bad and used to be coupled with me basically wanting to shut down and go to sleep, intense tiredenss, I managed to get switched to Levemir and although the headaches...

    Islet Cell Transplant

I will be having the procedure done at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, I think they have done it around 8 times. Kathy, that is exactly the type of thing I was looking for, a fascinating read! I'm just awaiting an appointment to have an ultrasound of my liver and that's me ready to go!

    Losing faith!

Hi Rebecca, I feel your frustrations! I've felt like that for a while, always a different doctor or consultant, actaully on a few occasions felt they didn't really know what they were talking about and disagreed with what they were asking me to do, it's more common that you'd think. I went on...

    Islet Cell Transplant

Hi all, Hopefully I've posted this in the right forum! I'm asking if anyone has been through Islet Cell Transplant, I'll be getting this done fairly soon and there's not a huge amount of stuff online apart from the odd blog (mainly americans and years ago). I was wanting some actual personal...

Don't know whether to get the flu jab

I'm 28 and up until I was 23/24, never bothered with the Flu Jab, the usual "It won't happen to me, I'll be fine if I do get it" thoughts of a young bloke who thinks they're partly invincible I guess. I ended up catching the flu in the winter of 2007, I can't really remember much about it, was...

    Type 1s taken Metformin

I might be way off, but a type 1 diabetic's pancreas is not capable of producing insulin, so what would be the point in taking metformin?

Do you inject in public? and how organised are you

Have no qualms about injecting in public whatsoever, and I haven't really had any issues from others about it, may be the laid back Scottish don't give a monkeys about it, the only bother I can remember is in London a few years back in an Indian Resteraunt, I had a woman look at me as if I was...

Is using a lot of insulin bad for you

I'm 28, been type 1 for 20/21 years, I'm a grazer too, eat plenty, I'm pretty much bang in the middle for BMI, 11 stone, 5 foot 11, I take around 80 units of Insulin a day, not one complication, feel great.

    Pizza

Never had a problem with Pizza at all, although I don't have cheese on mine as I hate the stuff, maybe that's something to do with it?

    Insulin users. Your reactions.

What does that actually mean? Improving the quality of life is why the NHS was founded.
