    3 month post diagnosis MOT

Thanks Sid. Yep! Was really nice to sit down in the pub and have a pint after so long. I'm not going to get whiskey bottles anymore (well try not too) as I lack the self control for them and I noticed some of my liver/kidney readings were a bit on the high side. Does anyone here know about...

    3 month post diagnosis MOT

Just arrived back from the GP to get my bloodtest results. The news is bitter-sweet, because whilst my test figures have improved since my original diagnosis approx. 3 months ago, I was told that they now do not warrant a referral to a specialist. I was so wanting to speak to someone that may...

Skipping breakfast to lower bs levels?

I don't seem to get this dawn phenomena (yet!). By this I mean that morning values aren't any different to rest of day unless I eat something to effect them one way or another.

Skipping breakfast to lower bs levels?

If one is slightly high (say mid 6s) at fasting, is it an okay idea to skip breakfast to help it go down a bit more?

Seeing a specialist, what to expect?

Thanks for that! :) I have loads of questions and only half an hour......

Seeing a specialist, what to expect?

I'm T2 (for those that don't know) and will be seeing my GP really soon. In this time of cuts and an apparent general ignorance of diabetes from my surgery I'm not expecting miracles but I should now be getting referred to a specialist. I don't know how long it will take to actually see him/her...

    Bitter Melon/Momordica charantia/Kugua/Goya in dishes

Folks, I feel compelled to post. I've been experimenting with 'karela' since a family friend put me onto them. After the initial shock at the taste, and getting used to that, I got some really interesting results from self administered tests. So in the context of sharing information: On two...

Aggressively pursuing 'normal' bs levels dangerous?

Sorry folks. Never meant to frighten anyone.

Aggressively pursuing 'normal' bs levels dangerous?

    Sugar Level

Someone will be around in a bit to give you standard advice given for newly diagnosed folk. Read that really, really carefully. But straight away I'd advice dramatically reducing all sugary and carb rich food. So all wheat and rice based, as well as sweet products are strictly off the menu. So...

    Guiness and bs levels

I know I have to test to see individual effect but I was wondering if anyone had any experience of the effects of drinking Guiness on their bs levels? I mean the stuff in the can with a widget. Anyone? I'm laying off the sauce at moment as I realise it is not a good idea for me to have...

    Why 2 Hours?

I would say 1 hour AND 2 hour post meal readings are important (yes, I know this costs a fortune in test strips). This is because taking solely 2 hour readings may hide spikes. Apparently sugar levels peak at about 45 mins after a meal, so your 1 hour reading will be closer to most of these...

    Type 2. Three months on.....

Just what the hell is going on with my moods? They fluctuate between 'fine and dandy' to 'depressed' with no warning from one day to the next? Okay, I've been diagnosed a few months now and what I noticed is that I seem to be becoming less and less strict with my control. Whereas before I had...

    Bitter Melon/Momordica charantia/Kugua/Goya in dishes

OTT = Over the top. If you don't test all of your efforts could be a waste of time, so psyche yourself and do it! Don't be squeamish. I guarantee after a few times, it will be nothing to you. Feel the fear and do it anyway! lol I haven't heard of the efficacy of aloe vera btw. Be careful...

    Bitter Melon/Momordica charantia/Kugua/Goya in dishes

Cinnamon You need to test intensively for a period of time to see exactly how difference food effects you. You have to essentially experiment and find out what is working for you and what not by checking 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours after a meal. Get yourself a blood tester and a bunch of...

    Bitter Melon/Momordica charantia/Kugua/Goya in dishes

Hi cinnamon I found the pale one less bitter than the dark green one myself. I don't whether this effects the potency as the bitter tasting substance may be the one that effects BS levels? You MUST, I say again MUST test to see if it is working for you. This conditions is very strange and...

    jobs and diabetes

I'm happy for you spoon! Do your job well, let them see that the condition doesn't really effect your ability to do your job in your honeymoon period. That way when it does eventually comes out, it will be a minor thing. If they haven't asked - you're safe.
