    Newly diagnosed

I hope you are re finding your way around the new routine of daily injections. Fantastic advice from the others above, that’ll really help you. Best of luck with work and agree with hypo treatments by you, as you may find your numbers are different in work than at home. I’d let people know you...

    Type 1'stars R Us

Please let it rain! My blood sugars aren’t playing ball in this weather, with very broken sleep and insulin seeming to just evaporate in my body rather than work efficiently, I’m seeing high numbers. Really annoying when carb counted and then see 16.5 or 14.2 etc. It’s too hot!

    Appointments during Covid-19

I had a letter from my gp saying my 6 month hba1c was due and I had blood test no problems. I then had text about my consultant appointment that had been cancelled due to Covid and it was telephone appointment. So from nothing at all for 4 months it was all at once, and hugely appreciated. Hope...

    Very disappointed with HBA1C result

I just wanted to say...an hba1c result of 48 is fantastic! Well done as that takes work to achieve and keep it low. I think it’s a brilliant number! As others say the finger test is at that moment. The hba1c is on average how many sugar molecules are attached so a cell...so 48. Doctors tend to...

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

Oh I hadn’t thought of that thankyou for the information, I usually feel when something’s amiss, was low in vit d (after being put on metformin couple years ago) and my legs where aching and so drained. I thought was going to be anaemia, as had that severely after my son was born, oh joy! GP...

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

I’m using BD Viva 0,23 4mm needles. Haven’t used any others to compare them to.

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

That sounds like me at the mo! Really big yellow ones on my tummy and sides and top bottom where inject levemir. Hmm maybe it’s hormones + heat + hitting vessels + diabetes just being a pain in the bum sometimes Sorry to hear you’ve got them too! Although nice to know it’s fairly common, and...

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

Ohhhh thank heavens for advancement in medical science! I may have passed out at the sight of your original needles then heheh! What a warrior you are! My grandmother was Type 1 and I remember her with a little bottle of insulin and long needle. Had no idea before that she was diabetic!

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

Oh guess my hormones may be playing a part, nearing time of the month end week, so pain thresh hold usually goes way down etc may be why reacting and feeling it, bruising more? Interesting! I know it influences my blood sugars for a week, urgh so annoying see double numbers no matter what I do...

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

Oh no I’ve not re used, but I guess I am a relative newbie, 6 months injecting insulin, so not long enough to just get fed up with it all! Wowzers I won’t after reading how blunt they get! Mine are on prescription thankfully so I’m not having to worry about making them last/cost etc.

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

I do yes, every time as I unscrew the needle right after using, so the pen is empty on the end again. Otherwise I’d loose track of how often/long it been there I reckon! You wondering in case blunt? That would make sense wouldn’t it for the lumps and bruises.

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

Ah thankyou that makes sense, yep I must be hitting blood vessel more by chance lately then. Nope I’ve not bothered trying to keep my insulin cool, oops! I do use a 4mm needle, and I was taught not to pinch, just to come down and push into the skin, but not hard from afar or anything. Maybe...

Type 2 New to taking metformin

I was put on metformin, it’s the first drug they tend to try. the slow release version is kinder to your stomach, so worth asking for it. It’s taken exactly the same. Most people have gastro problems as a side effect, for a few weeks. For me it was constant so I stopped taking it. The hunger may...

    Nearly finished myself off..

I too was told late onset type 1 this year and started on insulin in March. But I had a lovely specialist diabetes nurse who talked me through the pens and showed me exactly how to use them, putting on needle, click 2 units and release to clear for air bubbles, the dial to the dose you need etc...

    Injection sites bruising/bleeding

Hello, I’ve been on MDI insulin since March this year, late onset type 1. Most of the time it’s pretty painless and just get on with it without too much thought...but the last few days I’ve been really bruising and bleeding from where I’ve injected?! Help! Anyone else have this or know why? I’ve...

    Blood sugar rising despite Novorapid

Heat doesn’t help numbers sometimes, I found hormones where rising me to 16-18 even though dosing before meals so I contacted my specialist diabetes nurse and she advised me to up my background insulin by 20% during period time and see, may need more but start 3 months that and see, may be worth...

Interested to know about others' LADA / T1.5 journeys

Ah I know the frustration of GP who is adamant “you are type 2” I had gestational twice, but had good levels after so niavely thought that was the end of diabetes for me...was then pre diabetic, really out of the blue, but quickly I couldn’t get my levels done, went low carb etc no real help. GP...

Interested to know about others' LADA / T1.5 journeys

Oh I didn’t know you could have 0.5 unit pen...I will ask about this! I don’t need much insulin at the moment, roughly 1:20g but my numbers are higher than I’d like as I found down rather than up for fear of hypos.

    Sugar level spike after breakfast

Have you tried a bit of Agarve? It’s low GI. It’s a syrup in supermarkets by sugar, sweetener etc. But it’s natural and as low GI shouldn’t cause such a hit. Guess you can cut that sweetener out and see? Other reasons I see a surge in blood sugar numbers is hormones and when I’m fighting...
