    Nightmare diabetes appointment

I don't rate Dr. Bernstein at all. I think he is unrealistic and is setting most diabetics up for strife and failure. Quantity of life is nothing without the quality. Personal opinion.

    Nightmare diabetes appointment

Really?? My DSN says the opposite! She says spikes are nothing to get overly concerned about so long as the levels are back down to normal before u have your next meal! She even told me not to test my blood post prandial as its not important and to only test morning, night and before main meals!

    Nightmare diabetes appointment

I agree I think the HCPs have no idea what causes some people to have huge complications and some to have very few. I think it's completely different for every person, as is diabetes. My optician who does my eye tests actually said to me "you will need glasses when you are 40 as you are...

    Nightmare diabetes appointment

It's interesting that you have hypos Ian when u are not on any medication. I thought it was impossible! This gives me even more ammunition in my fight with the DVLA!!

She never said anything about them saying her hba1c was too low, just a very small percentage of readings.

The low was the dieticians opinion of a low though. Smidge said that those levels were not low to her. I've had lots of 3.9s etc and felt fine, I don't start feeling weird until 3.5 or lower.

    Nightmare diabetes appointment

Noblehead, if Smidge is raising concerns about high spikes and they're banging on about lows I don't see how listening to THEM will be helpful when they were not prepared to listen to Smidge. Also, dieticians are not doctors and so I would rather listen to a diabetic consultant than a dietician...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Sorry to hear about your thyroid Ian. It sounds as though ur beta cells are not very active due to the low carb and so the immune system is looking for something else to attack and has chosen your thyroid :-(. Hope this is not the case and they sort it out soon but the immune system is a funny...

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

At the end of the day there is no point criticising someone for being blunt. Of course there are side effects of any medication but the fact of the matter is, as LADA or type 1, it's either take the insulin and risk any side effects or die. Not much of a choice when u think of it like that is...

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

So I've been on insulin for a month now and I've put on half a stone! I'm so fed up I've not changed my diet since starting insulin and yet my BMI has gone up from 22 to 24!! Im guna have to stop this insulin malarkey soon and risk losing a limb I think!!

    Insulin question

I had lost a bit of weight but No I was still at a healthy weight with a BMI of 21 so I don't want to be putting any on :-(

    Insulin question

I've put on half a stone since I started insulin 3 weeks ago and I haven't changed my diet at all!! This is just not good! :-( :-(

    Insulin question

I already use a new injection every time and rotate sites but it makes no difference. Sometimes it's fine but most of the time it hurts or bleeds or bruises or all of those things. I'm sure i'll get used to it though.

    Insulin question

I already do that and my pen is as small as possible and 4mm micro fine. My body just doesn't like injections I guess

    Insulin question

My levels came down immediately and although it's amazing it's still awful having to inject and test blood it hurts and I bruise and bleed a lot but it's a price I have to pay....

    Insulin question

They wanted me on a mixed insulin to start with so I'm on humulin m3 I think and only take it twice a day. My levels are between 4mmol and 7mmol all the time it's amazing!!

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

My consultant ordered my tests literally within a week of me visiting my GP so I had full blood and hba1c as well as c-pep and GAD test. The gap between the GPs and the endo consultants is shocking really....

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

In my experience the GPs are useless anyway! I had to get myself referred back to my consultant as my DSN was just like oh don't worry take an extra Metformin! This was despite me having constant BG levels of 10-20mmol. Needless to say the consultant wasn't very happy and he also wasn't happy...

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

I wouldn't hold off with levels that high, mine were never above 20mmol. You will need to go onto insulin as soon as possible or you could potentially end up in hospital with DKA where they will hav no choice but to put you on insulin via a drip at first and then injections

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

Hi susie, if u are type 2 then that's fine you can more than likely prevent yourself from ever needing insulin with lifestyle and diet changes along with some meds, but if u are LADA then unfortunately u won't have a choice and will one day in the near future need insulin. It will literally be...
