Why Do Diabetics Fail To Adhere To Dietary Regimes?

I have had type 1 for 55 years in Feb 2017 (no complications). My motivation for sticking to that same diet for all those years is because it makes me feel good. If blood sugar is anything over 7 I feel absolutely awful--I need lots of energy to be able to do everything I want and need to do &...

Question If You No Longer Take Statins.

Was prescribed statins & blood pressure tabs aged 52 after 44/5 years of type 1 diabetes. Was surprised about the blood pressure because even though I had had diabetes for a long time I had always had normal blood pressure, even when twice pregnant,--likewise cholesterol results. Anyway I did as...

Well done on the "cure" you worked out for yourself--you have done really well!! Just laugh at what they put on your records (and if they leave you alone in the room make sure you have a pen with you...............)!!!

    Annual Diabetic Review

Even though LCHF diet is now the way to go & it has been proven too--she obviously doesn't keep up with current research (neither does my DSN--seems to read magazine articles instead). See thread on this newsletter re Prof Tim Noakes video--about an hour long but well worth a watch because it...

    Type 1: Bad Diabetic

Don't beat yourself up if things are not right blood sugar wise--lots of things affect BMs and as time goes on you will know what these things are and so make adjustments. Be self disciplined so tests etc just become habitual. Keep to a routine with regard to tests, injections and food. Learn as...

    Type 1: Bad Diabetic

I don't think it is maturity because those I know who have had bad outcomes with diabetes have all been older people. I developed type 1 when I was 8 years old and felt awful with zilch energy. When I was taken into hospital, was monitored and eventually received my first insulin injection I can...

    Type 1: Bad Diabetic

If that's what works for you it is good that you acknowledge and use it. I know several people who have had compications and the outcome was not good for any of them.

    Type 1: Bad Diabetic

Good on you!! I thought I had had "it" forever (54 years without complications--55 yrs next Feb) but take my hat off to you......!!!!! Didn't realise you could mix analogue & animal--when I asked no one seemed to know either. I also feel like **** if I go above 7 BG--quite a motivation, I...

    Type 1: Bad Diabetic

Feel like absolute **** if I don't test and adjust food/ insulin accordingly and if I don't plan ahead and take a suitcase full of food/ medical supplies with me wherever I go!!!! If I lapse I have no energy, motivation or get up and go--little or nothing gets done and I hate that. Oh and the...

Constant hunger and falling off the Wagon

I would try eating more protein (it's very filling) and veg (not root)/ salad whilst keeping the same amount of carbs at mealtimes. That is what I always do when I am hungry, even between meals, and this has worked for 54 years.

    Myth or True?

Same carbohydrate in brown and white but brown works slightly more slowly in the body. It is carbs you need to count/ take account of. 1 flat tablespoon of white or brown rice is 10 grammes of carbohydrate.

Type 1 and trying to conceive

A fallopian flush can occasionally cause scarring in the tubes which can stop eggs travelling through. I suggest trying clomid for 6 months and don't become stressed as it will not help. Edited by a mod

can hot weather affect blood sugar?

Normally I find hot weather makes insulin action inconsistent and sometimes low but recently during a holiday in Italy where temperatures were between 34 & 37 I refigerated my insulin in hotels but found I need more insulin--only thing I can think of is because I was using pork insulin rather...

    peanut butter

Because of coatings added to peanuts--be aware though that often cho contents are sometimes incorrect eg Asda not too reliable..... So are pasta and potato but still cause spikes.............low glycemic is promoted but does not work for me as the effect hours later is very substantial--common...

CHO given on jars is per100g--would you have 100g of peanut butter on a slice of bread? Your cho calculation of peanut butter s/b based proportionately on the amount eaten. I have never found peanut butter t/b a problem
