    Frightened of food!

It’s so true, I love reading how other T1s eat. We all kind of find our own way don’t we x

    Frightened of food!

Yes, I know what you mean. I just want to eat then relax and not have to think about correction doses and have the anxiety of wondering if I’ll have a hypo in the night, don’t want to have to walk off a high either when I’m tired (plus it rains here all the time!) I find 30g of carbs totally...

    Frightened of food!

That’s so interesting Tash, I tend to eat most carbs during the day (lunch the highest at around 70g) and stick to 30g, the lowest amount of any of my meals, for dinner so I don’t have to worry about correction doses/going low in the night. I guess we all have different ways of doing things x

    Frightened of food!

Aw, thanks. I guess when I read the ‘T1 can eat anything’ motivational stuff it makes me feel like I’m a bit rubbish at this as I just can’t and keep good blood sugar. I tried pasta again yesterday, I give it a shot once a month, and it’s just chaos and totally screws my day and mindset up...

    Frightened of food!

Hi, I can’t totally relate to the frustration with food. It’s all testing, get a nice new notebook and write down a meal you would enjoy, grams of carbs in that meal etc and how it goes (either finger pricking regularly or ideally with a Libre) and once you’ve got a few meals worked out then...

    Feedback for a Design project

Hi Cara, I love it - it’s a very strong and bold design. Have you found diabetes has affected your art or ability to make art at all? I went to art college so long ago now but still potter about with collage and drawing but find diabetes can be a bit of a pain - having to stop and go for walks...

Waking up and bloods in the teens

Yes, worth a try for sure. Are you on Novorapid cartridges for a pen? I got in touch with the company who make Novorapid yesterday querying a recent batch - the insulin works for approx 6 days before seemingly stopping working? I’ve been through a fair few cartridges with the same problem (from...

Waking up and bloods in the teens

Hi, I was in the same situation recently and it was all a bit chaotic. I also go high just before my period but not as sky high as last weekend - turns out my basal was wrong and spoke with nurses who advised to increase. I’m still in a bit of a mess with my numbers but think I need to increase...

Type 1 Hormones and Type 1

Hi Vicky, I have high blood sugar before my period and sometimes for a day or so into it then can spend a few days hypo. It’s all very frustrating and I can’t see any pattern, changes every month grrr. I think there are apps you can track your cycle with, apparently there can also be higher...

Suddenly high yesterday at lunch and dinner and all through the night

Fingers crossed it’s a good day for you. My Libre is currently doing it’s ‘scan error’ thing which seems to last for hours at a time so I’m finger pricking constantly, so far so good but who knows

Suddenly high yesterday at lunch and dinner and all through the night

That’s interesting, I’m having a bad psoriasis flare up just now during my premenstrual week. I’ll ask about Lantus when I speak to the diabetes team, I’ve been tracking my cycle but there’s no real pattern as to when and if my bloods will be harder to manage x

Suddenly high yesterday at lunch and dinner and all through the night

It’s frustrating isn’t it, so are you back to ‘normal’ now or waiting to see what happens today? I gave myself an extra unit of novorapid for breakfast and am keeping an eye on numbers but it’s starting to feel like a random guessing game with how it’s going to go for the rest of the day

Suddenly high yesterday at lunch and dinner and all through the night

Hi, thanks so much. Yes I was wondering how others managed Tresiba during their cycle. I usually just accept that I may be higher (some months very insulin resistant, some months not so it’s hard to make decisions with basal increases) I guess I’ll see how today works out, it’s the not knowing...

Suddenly high yesterday at lunch and dinner and all through the night

Thanks, I was just so surprised as I’ve never had this happen before but maybe my honeymoon has come to an end or maybe it was a random day or maybe I’ve got some virus brewing. I think I’ll have a lower carb day, just had breakfast so I may have to make a few corrections, as yesterday was so...

Suddenly high yesterday at lunch and dinner and all through the night

Thanks, yeah panicked about my basal but I’m premenstrual so typically a wee bit higher through the night at this time but not this high. I’ll check with the nurse tomorrow about the basal. Maybe I’m coming down with something. I’ll see what today brings

Suddenly high yesterday at lunch and dinner and all through the night

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help- I probably need to chat to diabetes nurse but it’s the weekend of course! I went really high yesterday suddenly at lunch time - took my usual 5 units for 65g lunch which normally gives me a rise after three hours but it shot up immediately and climbed...

    Easier and trickier carbs

Good luck with the pizza! I’m still experimenting with foods and scribbling down timings and outcomes but some foods just don’t want to play fair and react in wildly different ways. That’s interesting you find sweet potato fairly straightforward, I’d forgotten about them!

Type 1 Spiking 3 hours after meals

Thanks, lucky you having cracked pizza! This only seems to be a problem with sandwiches when I add something fattier (pudding etc) I’ve worked out split bolus for other foods with some/sometimes very little success because I would go low after eating then high later but with sandwiches I don’t...

Type 1 Spiking 3 hours after meals

Yes, I think it must be the crisps/dessert that’s causing this to happen as I’ve tried sandwiches with all types of fillings and never have this problem until I add the other stuff - trying to increase my carbs to gain weight but I’m probably walking off all the calories with the three hour...

Type 1 Spiking 3 hours after meals

Hi, I go through periods when I spike three-three and a half hours after lunch. I tend to have a sandwich and either a vegan cookie or crisps and pre bolus 10 mins, stay really nicely in range and then suddenly spike hours later. Does this mean that I should split bolus or extend/decrease my pre...
