A Question for Katherine( or anyone who is interested)

Hi Oskar I don't think the point you made was trivial. As a young diabetic, I was never aware of the connection between manipulating insulin and weight loss until a diabetic consultant told me that lots of young women manipulate their insulin to lose weight. At the time, weight wasn't an issue...

Bedtime Snack - no dairy, sugar or grains????

Hi all My endo (for another condition) asked me to follow a no dairy, no grain (with the exception of rice) diet. This is going quite well in general and in many ways is similar to Bernstein (except I am allowed about 4 new potatos or a small amount of rice with my dinner). The difficulty I'm...

    Never felt so cold

Hi Dave Definitely get your thyroid checked. Even with diabetes for ten years I was always hot blooded and needed to sleep with windows open, fans blowing etc. Since diagnosis with thyroid disease I have permanently freezing cold feet and hands! The only thing that helps is microwaveable...

    BS levels and drugs

Just wondering, what kind of dosage of steroids are you on that has this bad effect on your blood sugars? My doc was talking about starting me on a low dose (maybe 5mg) of hydrocortisone but over a longer term period. Does the dosage matter or is it any amount of steroid that has a deleterious...

    antibodies, autoimmunity and diabetes

Hi If only 60% of type 1's test positive for autoantibodies does anyone know what is proposed to cause Type 1 in the other 40%? Is all Type 1 autoimmune in nature and is it just that they haven't discovered the other (non AntiGAD) antibodies that affect the remaining 40%? Or do they think...

Help - took wrong units of insulin

Thanks guys for your advice about the doses. I feel much more reassured. I checked before dinner (6.30) and my BG had dropped back down to 7. As that was four hours after the super-dose  I'm hoping things will be stable now. I took a slightly lower dose (2 units) to cover my roast...

    Ketones/type 2?

Does the size of the ketones matter? The other day, I kept my sugars low all day (below 7). I woke up to pee at night and was feeling very thirsty. On a whim did a ketones test - my ketones were 3+ (eg. large) but when I tested my sugar it was only 4.3. I find it all very confusing.

Is There Ever Gonna Be A Cure For This?

Hi Vanchatron It must be really hard if diabetes is directly affecting your ability to do the sport you care about. Have you ever managed to get contact with other Type 1 body builders on bodybuilding forums to see if they have any tips about how to increase muscle (I'm sure there must be a few...

    Anyone have problems with Sudafed?

A bit late for you now but I've found Vicks First Defence nasal spray to be brilliant for stopping my colds in their tracks. You have to use it right at the beginining of the cold though for it to take effecy. The minute I get the sneezes/sniffles, I squirt some every four hours and it seems to...

High fasting blood sugars - what now?

Hi Fleur Sorry to hear you have been feeling unwell as of late. I wanted to post as your description sounds a bit like how I was when I was first diagnosed. I also had the borderline high blood sugars, was aged 20 and had a lowish BMI (well height 5'6'' and weight of 7 stone 7 lbs). My only...
