Funny Feet - of the non Wall's Ice Cream kind

Hi Lillibet I've just been through that with my feet while going through the process of lowering my sugars. I had strange feelings in my feet: aching, numbness, tingling etc. It got better after about 10 days. I have to say it was a bit scary at first as it made me realise what the future will...

    Got my results back

Hiya Sorry to hear your GP was patronising. Ian D's suggestion sounds like a good plan. I just bought an Abbott Freestyle Lite monitor for £5.99 yesterday online http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/freestyl ... 10669.html It arrived already today complete with 10 strips. You can get additional test...

    Fasting sugars

Hi Patti Thanks for your reply. Your assumption is right as I don't bolus for the hot chocolate. Does that mean it would be a good idea to lower my basal say by one unit? I'm currently on 13 units basal. Thanks Goji

    Fasting sugars

Hi everyone Just wondered what your fasting sugar ought to be? I've started restricting carbs. Before I go to bed my sugar is on about 5.5 - 6. I drink a hot chocolate and eight hours later, my fasting is between 4.3 and 4.8. Does the fact that it drops mean I am taking too much basal insulin...

    Low carb + ketones = ?

Hi everyone I've been following a reduced carb diet the past week. My sugars are really improving however two nights running I have tested for positive for 1+ ketones. Is this something to be concerned about? At the time of testing, my blood sugars were around 5.5 and 6.3. Thanks Goji

seperate type 1 and type 2 areas?

I'm new to the board and have been trawling through the archives and found many interesting posts by Type 2s that are relevant to me on topics as varied as neuropathy, diet, exercise etc. If I'd only scrolled through messages by Type 1s, I wouldn't have learnt as much as I have in the past week...

    Potential Low Carb Convert

Hi everyone Thanks so much for your advice. What you suggest is so much more helpful than what I got from the Diabetes dietician. She didn't mention anything about covering protein with insulin or reducing carbs. So far I've reduced carbs to about 90g a day (which is a lot less than I was on...

    Potential Low Carb Convert

Hi I'm new to the forum and am really keen on finding out more about the low-carb approach as I think I have been addicted to carbs for years. I have just ordered Bernstein's book. I think I would find it hard to do 40g of carbs a day but I will aim for a reduction. So far my questions...

    Diabetes and Thyroid

Hiya Sorry I took so long to get back to this thread. The British Thyroid Association (staffed by all the top British thyroid consultants) recommends that doctors wait until the TSH hits 10 before commencing treatment as according to them, people shouldn't have symptoms if their TSH is under...

    Diabetes and Thyroid

Hi Sarah I'm new to the forum. I've had Type 1 for 10 years and this year my thyroid started playing up. A gp let me start on thyroxine but an endo took me off it saying that it was impossible to have symptoms if your TSH level was below 10. Without meds, I get major fatigue, aching muscles...

    can't tolerate lower sugars - type 1

Hi I've had IDDM for about 10 years. I never paid it much attention and tended to run things high so as not to have any hypos at work. However I recently was misdiagnosed with neuropathy (turned out to be something else causing the pain) but during the process I did a lot of reading about...
