    Hypos during the night

Thank you for your responses. She takes her basal injection every morning not in the evening. What is a basal rate test? Tonight her reading is 17 which she is very happy with since she won’t get a hypo in the night We have taken off the libre2 this afternoon to see if that helps And are just...

    Hypos during the night

Recently my wife has had several hypos (3 last night) during the night for no apparent reason even though the reading before she goes to bed is quite good at about 10. In our house 10 is good even though a bit high. After the hypo she takes the jelly babies or coke then waits 10 minutes to...

    Progress report

I was very concerned when you advised me that the libre readings could be incorrect above a reading of 9. I have just telephoned Abbott Laboratories and intially they said that any reading below 4 or above 10 was "wrong". After a lot of discussion the lady to whom I spoke agreed that they were...

    Progress report

Dear M@ Thank you for your comments. Yes my wife does use a libre, I have to say that I didnt know that it is calibrated to be accurate between about 4 and 9mmol/l. I am very surprised; what you are saying that the 24 reading in the worst case could be between 33 and 15 ie 9 each way. Yes the...

    Progress report

My wife's progress has been erractic over the last few weeks, readings ranging from 3.7 to 24, for no apparent reason and time in target reduced to about 40% Wrote to the Nurses thay said that the pancreas must have stopped working, I thought that it had stopped when my wife was diagnosed with...

Change in Age of T1 Diagnosis in Recent Decades

I have just read all the above comments ( except any links) and some of it is above my cerebral level However I will say that my wife was misdiagnosed with Type 2 and only after I kept querying it they double checked and said it was Type 1, this was 6 months after the initial diagnosis. During...

    Readings

Now up to 65% to 70% which is a miracle Still doing a lot of guesswork I wrote a progress report but I don’t know where it has gone

    Type1 progress

It is now 14 months since my wife was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of 78 Sugar levels still range from 3 to 19 Despite this we are in range (4 to 10) between 65% and 70% of the time which is a miracle! We don’t think that this will be bettered There is still a lot of guesswork but...

    Readings

Dear Ellie I’ll double check but the fact is that that the tir has dropped from about 55/60% (from memory) to 30% With effect from this morning we have increased the long term insulin from 14 to 16 units irrespective of what the doc says,we’ll give it a week or so and see if it helps
  13. G

    Readings

Since the new regime changed in mid May the TIR has dropped to 30% with about 30% above 10, this is very disappointing The range is 4 to 10. Also getting more hypo’s It seems to me that we may as well have intelligence guesses as to the number of units of insulin to inject since following the...

    High readings

She is currently having about 100 to 150 carbs per day During this hot weather having salads, still coming to terms with not being able to do anything spontaneously without having to consider insulin taken/about to take etc Both of us now tire very easily/often

    High readings

As of today a new regime as suggested by the Dr Morning 14 units (2 units less) Breakfast ratio 1 to 5 (instead of 1 to 6) Lunchtime 1 to 10 (as before) Evening 1 to 8 (as before) Adjustment factor 1 to 3 instead of 1 to 2 We will see what this brings Also may do a low carb diet to stop...

    High readings

Thanks Ellie To be honest we haven’t used the keytone strips for ages only when we get a reading of above 20. Current regime is Morning basal 16 units Breakfast- ratio of 1 to 6 Lunch 1 to 10 Evening meal 1 to 8 The correction factor depends on the reading above 8 Eg if the reading is 11 We...

    High readings

No change. readings still high between 14 and 20 Nurses don’t seem worried Wife worried sick I proposed upping daily dose from 16 to 18 but nurses do not agree Can’t fathom why readings are high Plod on regardless
  18. G

    High readings

Yes what we have done is change the breakfast ratio The ratios now are Breakfast 1 to 7 (previously 1 to 8) Lunchtime 1 to 10 Dinner time 1 to 8 The correction factor is 2 in all cases We’ll try this for 3 days and if this doesn’t work then change breakfast to 1 to 6

    High readings

Why does my wife feel very very tired when she has high readings of 14 to 17
  20. G

    Readings

Readings range from 4 to 14 which is an improvement. Target is 8 Doubt if this will ever be achieved So having to accept that this is 4 to 14 is the norm Wife fed up to the back teeth Ratios different for every meal yet nothing seems to work to get an average of 8 before each meal Nursing...
