    Medtronic minimed 640g pouches/cases

I use childrens socks from a supermarket - just looked for ones without heels in - they don't hang though I just tuck them in somewhere.

I have had a freestyle optimum since I was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago, have always had strips on repeat, only had pump since August.

    Need New Pen

My GP prescribes single use pens and insulin, but I got my reuseable pens from my DSN at the hospital - she has a stock which are given to her by the manufacturers - can you try and get a pen from them? Whoever makes the insulin you use?

On diagnosis, what medication were you given?

My GP didn't try and treat me, sent my results straight to the hospital where I was seen the next day. Even though they didn't know what type of diabetes I had I was injecting insulin within 15 minutes of being in hospital (due to BGL of 33 and ketones) and they took bloods and tested for GAD...

    Mini med 640g

it slides, you need to pull the bit behind the top of the clip towards you (a tiny little oblong that sticks out) to unlock it and then it just slides up. Hope this makes sense, I found it difficult at first too but since I don't wear the clip during the day and I do at night mine is on and off...

    Metformin & insulin - who's taking both?

I'm in the UK, type 1 and I have it so some clinics/consultants give it to type 1's in the UK. I'm on a pump now and still have it.

I think it depends where you are, I had a 3 hour pump start clinic in April but didn't start pump until August.

New pumper and getting used to wires/pump

I keep mine in a sock in the middle of my bra so the tubing is all under my clothes, I hardly notice it.

    Pump accessories

I use the 640g, the only accessories I use are a smallish make up bag to carry around my spares kit (insulin vial, resevoir, mio, syringes, battery etc), some childrens socks (£3 for two pairs from a supermarket) which are heelless which I use to keep the pump in when it's in my bra (most of the...

    Newly diagnosed T1D

If you are on two injections a day now I expect that is why your DSN is reluctant to start you carb counting, once I moved to basal /bolus I was doing many more injections a day 6 to 10 - so maybe she thinks this will be more difficult for you, especially as you say you are just about coping...

I use every week for around 15 minutes, haven't had any issues.

I'm diabetic vs I have diabetes

I don't think I like it much - as in ' Oh here comes the diabetic' any more than I like (since I have ginger hair) 'Oh here comes the ginger' and this is from supposed friends why not just say 'Oh here's fairylights!) But depends on the context i suppose and I guess the first one (which has been...

    What am I ? T1 or T2

I don't think my MIL is type 1 although she has not been tested. I know quite a few others that have been diagnosed with type 2 that are slim and seem to manage okay on diet alone. I guess I was lucky, I did lose weight at diagnosis but I was still overweight at this time (May 2012) and my GP...

    HbA1c and average blood glucose

I don't usually eat many carbs at breakfast or lunch so can be less than 10 after 2 hours, often after dinner where I can eat 60/70g carbs I can be in high teens after 2 hours, a couple of times my cannula has detached and then I have been in the 20's for ages, it seems to take ages for me to go...

    What am I ? T1 or T2

I'm not sure the weight thing equates, my MIL is very very thin and has type 2 (and severe neuropathy), I on the other hand am overweight and have type 1. I am pretty sure she has type 2 she eats more carefully and has a great HbA1c, I on the other hand am definitely type 1 as proved by the...

    HbA1c and average blood glucose

I have been on a pump since August and my pump shows that my average is 8.7, 8.6, 8.5 over the last 30, 14, 7, I was at the hospital clinic yesterday and also had an A1c of 7.6% so I was also a little disappointed, I also know that my average was lower in the previous 30 days. I feel that I...

does this mean I have not been getting Basal?

I haven't had an A1c done since starting on the pump as they had to change my appointment as the one I had was too close to starting. I am going to the clinic next week so I'll find out then, I am really hoping that it will have come down a fair bit, I did another proper basal test last night...

does this mean I have not been getting Basal?

I started on my pump in August and I'm still setting things up - it probably took em about the first four weeks to get my basal set for the period from 2am until noon and now the weather's gone cold it needs a bit of tweaking, going to do lots of testing when I'm off next week. It probably...
