    Doing the Newcastle

Week 2 Day 9 Tuesday 19th December. FBG 5.0 Weight 102.2kg Only the tiniest drop in weight but that's OK as long as the trend is down. I'm sticking resolutely to the limit so no reason to think it won't work. Just need to be patient. The blood number is the best I've seen in a very long...

Thanks @Peerless67. Seeing your account of successfully completing the ND has been a real boost. Hopefully yours, mine, and similar accounts can continue encouraging other people.

    Doing the Newcastle

Week 2 Day 8 Monday 18th December. FBG 5.2 Weight 102.5kg Very pleased about the glucose level. This is with my normal dose of long-acting insulin taken first thing in the morning. No other meds. Since day 1 I've only had one other number in the 5s so this is a substantial drop. If this...

    Peerless67 "Newcastle diet"

I'm a week into the ND and I've just read all of this thread to glean everything I can from such an inspirational account. Peerless67, thanks for producing such an honest and pragmatic account, and all the guys who offered comments. It shows very clearly what's possible given the right commitment.

    Doing the Newcastle

Day 7 Sunday 17th December. FBG 7.0 Weight 102.0kg First time the weight has inched up a little but the trend is still all good. No doubt it will continue to drop steadily next week and for the rest of the eight weeks. I've kept rigorously to the 800 calorie limit mostly coming in around 750...

    Doing the Newcastle

Day 6 Saturday 16th December. FBG 7.4 Weight 101.1kg Inching towards double figures with the weight. Keeping to the 800 calories without any difficulty. I think keeping busy helps because I just don't think about meals during the day. My blood stayed too high yesterday so I've reinstated the...

    Doing the Newcastle

Day 5 Friday 15th December. FBG 7.3 Weight 101.7kg Weight continues to drop which is pleasing. Blood is still too high. Yesterday, after reducing the insulin I had two values over 18 which persisted for hours which is not good. It indicates that for me it is still too soon to reduce the...

    Doing the Newcastle

Forgive me but I'm losing track of what point you are making. I'm not sure if you are disagreeing with something I've said but if so, I don't know what it is and I haven't understood the reasons. I've done a fair amount of homework on Taylor's work, his previous papers, the biochemistry...

    Doing the Newcastle

Interesting. The validity of the conclusions was the reason Taylor gave for stopping medication but clearly there are other considerations in a GP setting. In my case I have to do this without medical support because it's just not there. In one way, I don't mind since it has to be my...

    Doing the Newcastle

Yes, I totally agree with the science. Any insulin assay is simply a snapshot and it might be of use in a steady state environment in which BG is balanced by an insulin dose. The ND is all about disrupting that balance by recalibrating the liver and pancreas. I appreciate the reasons Taylor et...

    Doing the Newcastle

I an old lag with T2 being diagnosed back in 2004 and I've struggled with control for a long time. This is the first time I've felt really hopeful that research is getting at the problem and finding a solution. So I'm very committed. I'm a complete newbie with the Newcastle but I can see that...

    Doing the Newcastle

Day 4 Thursday 14th December. FBG 6.8 Weight 102.2kg. Pleased and a little surprised at the weight loss. Mostly water I'm sure but good to see nonetheless. The blood sugar still hasn't dropped much but in anticipation I've reduced the insulin a little to see the effect during the day. If all...

Yes, I'm monitoring the levels very carefully. At present, they haven't come down and there's no time during the day when I'm at risk of a hypo. I check last thing at night as well to prevent a hypo during the night. It's very good advice to keep on top of this and monitor it closely. Thanks.

    Doing the Newcastle

Day 3 Wednesday 13th December. FBG 6.7. Weight 104.2kg. I'm still taking the long-acting insulin and I'll do so until I see a consistent drop in FBG. then I'll tail it off. The liver's recovered insulin sensitivity will be impaired if I'm still swimming in insulin. Good that the weight's...

    Doing the Newcastle

Yeah, I've thought a lot about that and I agree that it's really important. I immediately cut out a meal-time combination pill of vildglyptin/metformin and I'm monitoring my blood four or five times a day so as soon as there's a noticeable drop in FBG which is sustained during the day I'll cut...

    Doing the Newcastle

I've just moved this from a blog to the forum - thinking it might be useful for supporting others and getting support for my efforts too. It's now 10th December and I'm starting the Newcastle diet tomorrow - this afternoon we have a Christmas meal and I don't want to miss it. I'm writing this...

DUK's new position statement on Low carbing.

AliB, no-one is ridiculing you or making out that you are not intelligent. What is happening is that the ideas you have presented are being challenged because they are demonstrably incorrect. Many people with the best of intentions are mislead by what is presented on websites and in the press...
