Our diabetes nurse invited me to a review at the surgery a couple of years back, I mentioned that I use the hospital clinic for my T1 treatment but she said to come anyway, before greeting me on arrival to tell me she didn't know why I'd been sent for as it was a T2 clinic, I got a blood and...

how safe is overindulging once in a while

If using insulin then it's inject/monitor, to me the two risks are over correcting and having a hypo or a nasty spike overnight, Indian food if eaten to excess can do this :p. If you're 'comfortable' with your condition it shouldn't affect your overall control.

    "Of which sugars"

Although the pot noodle's 19g carbs/100g a pot of it's 58g carbs (there's a couple in the cupboard in case the child requests one), my own experience of eating one would suggest there's more simple sugars than advertised! One way of looking at the 'of which sugars' with carbs is that the carbs...

Pneumococcal vaccine For diabetes not age

I had the pneumococcal vaccine a long time back, I think the year after the flu vaccine was offered, I don't recall any adverse effects same as the flu jab but I have that one every year anyway, I've no medical conditions other than T1d... I bet they're not doing it in the Acomb Methodist...

Good morning, a little high waking at 9.4 but the last 2 days I've had pins and needles in my hand (not diabetic ones) when I've woke and that's gone this morning so I can't complain :) It's going to be a dusty day as I think I'll be sanding with the french door closed due to the rain tho I've...

Good morning and happy Mondays :) dinner at the eldest's cost 3 injections and 12u Humalog but I did have 5 Yorkshires as a starter and was very nice at the end of a lazy Sunday, I may continue overeating tonight if the youngest fancies eating out as it's discount night :) Pins and needles suck...

Diabetic parents and the effects on their children

I embarrassed mine at junior school when I chucked a hypo in the playground picking them up, I was a single dad working on a building site and it was warm, I missed the drop and starfished on the floor as the eldest was coming out aged around 9, I'd have looked drunk, 14 stone in shorts, rigger...

Good morning and I think I'll take Karen's advice above :) yesterday was all about lifting a concrete sub floor which is now lifted and in a large pile in the front garden and I'm sat in my living room with my feet on the original concrete base and I'll need around 300kg of self levelling...

    T1 food.

Standard breakfast for the last umpteen years, porridge egg & bread, 2 slices today but it can vary depending on my waking level, 5u Humalog and I'll spike to 8 before dropping and needing a rich tea biscuit to level off. Lunch doesn't feel so far away :p

Ah :banghead::) I'm just back from Castle Howard but thank you as it's worth a look for the next time, the 75m zip line worries me a little as I've got diabetic knee on my left side :p (it doesn't always do as it's supposed to) and a mate twisted his when he went but I don't see what's stopping...

Good morning, sunny here which is nice as I can get some washing on the line, I'd planned to take my young un & friend to Go Ape but it's fully booked so we'll do it another day, we may go elsewhere but I'll have to wait till she phones :banghead: which helps with forward planning of mealtimes...

Morning, bad start waking with a 12 something as I took the young un for a pub carvery last night where 'they' serve you your food and I think we overdid the roast spuds :) and it's possible the parsnips were honey glazed ( I can't remember the taste of honey :p ). I did my first journey...

I've no idea about ketones tbh and have never had a way of testing for them, I work to keep my bloods down by default preferring to eat to correct as opposed to injecting, as for the rabbit :p he had to come rub his chin on the freshly painted wall, first time I caught him and washed him before...

Good morning :) I'm making the most of the weather and doing a bit in the garden at the moment although painting a wall and bits of the rabbit was hard work with the paint drying quickly, I'm having a few issues with tech still which is frustrating :banghead: but all in all my bloods are ok when...

    Nearly finished myself off..

No help but I keep my bolus insuin in a Frio pouch and my basal lives in the fridge so I need to make the conscious effort to have it, I use needle clippers and for my basal don't refit the coloured top so if I'm confused at bed time I can check my days used needles for confirmation. The...
