what do you do when hyper?

And for waking highs, I Bolus a correction dose, eat carb free until levels return to normal, checking hourly both bg levels and for ketones. I think your overnight basal dose needs to be corrected...

what do you do when hyper?

The reason for not exercising with levels above 14 (not 12) is the body is not getting any glucose at that level and therefore begins to believe its starving, so the liver dumps glucose as a support mechanism. Obviously as you don't have any insulin working this just makes your levels worse...

    Best Blood Glucose Testing Meter?

I loved the iBGStar, but now use the Contour link as it links automatically to my pump, the iBGStar is a fun meter if you have an iPhone or iPod :)

Low Blood Sugar without problems - anyone?

If you are suffering those kinds of lows without warning, it might be worth speaking to your DSN about getting onto a pump. I frequently had hypos in the 2s without signs - only discovered when I checked prior to eating or going to bed, so God knows how long I'd been that low - and as frequent...

Type 1 Pump Therapy... Thoughts etc

Got my pump last Wednesday, apart from yesterday when the cannula kept kinking (I had to change sites 3 times), I thinks it's amazing. I've woken up with previously unknown levels - 6.3 today, whereas I was waking up 14+ nearly every day.

    Difficulty getting a pump

I was recommended for pump therapy a year ago and funding was approved after 9 months - finally got my pump yesterday after a further 3 months wait. There are only 30 type 1s on pumps in my PCT (an area covering about 750,000 people - so I guess less than 1% of type 1s)

    What's the lowest you've been?

My lowest was 0.6. Survival instinct must have kicked in and I was found on the kitchen floor surrounded by empty juice bottles and the sugar bowl, couldn't remember how I got there!

    Hospitalrefused diabetic meds

Hospitals always will insist on using their own testing equipment as they check it for accuracy each morning. As for BP meds prior to an operation this too is normal as they can cause LOW BP readings post op. I'm type 1 and was refused insulin when given food post op as "you had some this...

    Neuropathy and addiction

I've had neuropathy for3 years. I am on a mixof gabapentin, paracetamol, tramadol & MST. as I can't tolerate amytriptiline, Pregabalin or codeine. Have to say my local pain clinic were no use, I was just told there'sno much canbe done for neuropathic pain and referred back to my endo who has...

Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pump?

Re: Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pum Pumps aren't given out easily - there are conditions which have to be met. I also understand that even if you were to buy the pump yourself, well, it's not quite that easy as the cost of the equipment that goes with them is so much -...

    NHS make my blood boil!

I imagine an awful lot of the reason patients aren't entrusted with their own notes in the NHS/British notion that people aren't allowed to see what's in them, without asking for copies or to see them - both of which carry a charge of up to £50. Having lived in both France & Spain as well as...

Diabetes Type 2 is a lifestyle choice

BigBenn You still have diabetes, you have just managed to get the symptoms under control through diet and exercise - well done you, but you are factually incorrect in saying you no longer have the disease...if you stopped the diet your high bloody sugars would return. You do not progress from...

    Type 1 In SERIOUS Trouble

honey, as the others have said, you need to try & overcome this fear. I suffered a similar problem 2 years ago...went from a size 16 to a 4 inside 2 years...I ended up in ITU for a week & 3 months of hospital admissions. I'm left with kidney failure, painful neuropathy, stomach & bladder...
