We use both here, my point in answer to yours was that we would.never rely just on serum creatinine as you said you Did, because here eGFR is considered to be a superior marker of kidney function. 24 hr creatinine clearance is rarely done here now, used to be commonplace about 15 years ago.

Not sure if you're from the UK or not but here serum creatinine is considered to be an unreliable marker of kidney function with eGFR being accepted as the best marker to establish and monitor a patients renal function. The calculation takes into account variables which a standard creatinine...

    Why is this so hard...

Don't lose hope just yet, what often happens with new and expensive drugs is that the manufacturer drops the price or offers a patient access scheme. The same may happen here especially if no.CCG agrees to fund it. It's great having these fantastic new products but not so great if they are...

    Anyone with Ankylosing Spondilitis?

Back pain is hard to diagnose and they don't often order x rays these days because they are just not that useful. To me the symptoms you describe do seem to be more.mechanical than inflammatory (which is spondylitis) and I think there must be nothing more miserable than having back pain every...

Hi I don't have AS but that comes under my line of work so I know a bit about it! Yes it is autoimmune. I can tell you the symptoms you might get if you have it but if you think you do you need to go to your gp and talk to them? So you might find that the back pain is worse 1st thing, stiff...

Even more close relatives with diabetes!

Yes I know that there is research on going and that there are trials underway regarding immunosuppressive therapies and genetic.testing. I also agree that there are more than one cause of type 2 diabetes and that we will probably end up with further classifications. However as it stands there...

Even more close relatives with diabetes!

I work.in rheumatology and all the conditions we see are autoimmune with the exception of fibromyalgia. I have patients with a whole host of AI diseases and really long family histories. I think it's quite well known that these diseases 'travel in packs'. Type 2 diabetes isn't auto immune...

    Margarine takes a hit

I remember my mum buying blue band which I think was margarine but that was a very long time ago! Maybe I've not seen it because I don't really use it I use olive oil spread or that delicious butter with naughty sea salt crystals in!

    Cranberry sauce

    Testing strips

Well even if the OP returns them.to the pharmacy they would have to destroy them so he may as well see if anyone else wants them.....maybe not completely ethical but surely better than wasting perfectly good test strips? .
