    Hello everyone

Hi! I'd say welcome to the club but while we're all friendly here we'd really prefer no new members for obvious reasons, so let's go wit welcome to the forum. :) Sounds like you've got a good plan in place which is great. I'd highly recommend the Carbs and Cals app, pretty much everything...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

So 4.8 for me this morning. Ran an experiment today to see how well I’m adjusting to carb levels without having to do a correction dose (as technically I’m basal only now). At lunch was 5.5 and had a subway 6” for lunch. This was calculated at 56 grams of carbs, double my usual lunch number...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

A perfectly acceptable 5.8 this morning.

    Alcohol vs Carbs

I didn’t adjust as I’m now on a basal only regime. That’s the main reason for the test as on basal only I couldn’t really adjust for it.

    Alcohol vs Carbs

Next morning and my BG is 5.8 which is about .3 - .5 higher than usual. So experiment over. It looks like a glass isn’t enough to do much to my liver, and I just need to take account of the carbs (3 in the glass I had).

    Alcohol vs Carbs

Well so far my BG has done exactly what it would do with no alcohol. Will keep monitoring until bed but it looks like the occasional tipple will be ok. I’d still not do it often, as the saying goes I’m am a “cheap date” and felt the effects of the wine for at least an hour (yes, I can get...

    Alcohol vs Carbs

Yes, will be monitoring closely. This is to find out what reaction my body will have. Will be checking BG every 30 mins.

    Alcohol vs Carbs

Well, experiment time. Just finished dinner and having a glass of Prosecco after (exactly 125ml). Let’s see what it does to the numbers shall we? :)

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.2 this morning. So it’s high 4s to low 5s each day, up into the 6s by end of day then back to the high 4s, low 5s by next morning. That works for me. :)

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Thanks. As I half jokingly say to my friends, there's nothing like nearly dying to give you a major attitude adjustment. :) To be fair 4.9 isn't a major issue as long as I wasn't going too low over night, but the care team want my HBA1c at 48 so if it's lower at the next check I can see them...

    Hey! *waves*

Like KK123 said, I’m type 2 and that doesn’t change. In fact my body is producing insulin which is why with a couple of metformin a day I can get by with only 10U of basal. My pancreas did stop (or severely reduce) insulin production for a while because of the shock of the DKA but recovered...

4.9 this morning. That’s the one downside of a basal only regime. You need to be exact with the carbs every day to keep the numbers stable. Yesterday I had probably 4g of carbs less than usual throughout the day and here we are.

    Coffee and diabetes

I do coffee with sweetener (as sweetener doesn't seem to affect my BG) and switched out the milk for unsweetened almond milk. I can drink that all day without it affecting my numbers. :) As an aside, Alpro unsweetened almond yoghurt is lush! :)

    Hey! *waves*

So I've been using the site for a few months now and realised I never introduced myself. :) So Hi, I'm Jen (now it feels like an AA meeting, I'm imagining a load of people chorusing "Hello Jen" ;) ) I'm a 51 y\o woman working in the IT sector with a loving wife, a cat, and a lizard for...

    Alcohol vs Carbs

To be fair that is true. Honestly I'm on the fence about having any as I'll have to go from my strict carb count (I'm not keto or anything but am on a "lower" carb diet of less than 100g a day) to what I'll be offered on the cruise which is bound to be at least double my usual count for dinner...

Newly diagnosed - consistent high readings

Ok, those numbers are high but it's all about getting the balance right. I don't know much about a jejunostomy apart from what I just googled, does it constantly feed or do you still take nutrition at specific times. Also, you say you've been given insulin, what types and doses? These are the...

    Alcohol vs Carbs

Ok, this is a silly one. So I used to drink low alcohol drinks as I liked the taste and drive too regularly to get much alcohol in my system, but those are off the menu because they are empty carbs. However, I'm off on a cruise in July and so don't have to worry about driving and was thinking...

Just about to buy a monitor

To my knowledge you need to get the right strips for the right monitor. I believe there is another thread on here that mentions the best one to get for value for money.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.5 this morning. Looks like I’ve got the new regime dialled in. 10U Lantus, 1 x 500mg Metformin twice a day, and around 90 something grams of carbs a day and I’m 5s in the morning and 6s at bed time. Only issue is how much flexibility I have. I’ll give it another few days then try a higher...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.1 this morning. I know the care team wants me at a HBA1c of around 48 so I imagine they won't want me in the low 5s regularly. I think I might have to dial back the Lantus slightly (8 wasn't enough and 10 got me a 5.1 so 9 maybe?) but I'll give it a couple more days before deciding as it...
