What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.9. :) Finally getting dialled back in using basal only. Of course there’s less flexibility this way but 1 injection a day rather than 4 is a good thing. :)

Do you weigh yourself every day?

I don’t do daily as you can have too many fluctuations day to day. What I do is a weekly official weight check (that is noted down in my app) and a “mid week weigh-in” just to see if I’m on track.

Type 2 Glucose and ketone blood strips

Guess I got lucky. Back when I was first diagnosed years ago I was given my meter and strips free and was only on Metformin.

Type 2 Glucose and ketone blood strips

I never even thought that there'd be a cost for this in the UK. I'm in Wales and got my meter, test strips, and lancets on prescription.

    DKA in type 2

I had a DKA in late Jan, funnily enough 2 weeks after being moved to empagliflozen. Was put on insulin (NovoRapid and Lantus), and have just been pulled off the NovoRapid as my numbers are now nice and low. Currently re-adjusting to work with just Metformin and Lantus so a little high right...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

So 6.5 for me but the number have been up since they have tried pulling me off of bolas and doubled my Metformin. Getting lots of "gastric issues" with the increased Metformin and they never calmed down when they tried a high dose when I was first diagnosed so we're going back to 2 x 500mg a...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.8 this morning but feeling dizzy and unable to head into work (luckily I can WFH if I’m feeling better by 8:30). Heart was a little fast too but has dropped down to numbers closer to normal. May be unrelated to diabetes & Metformin (exercised as normal this morning but it’s pretty hot today)...

Can you suggest good places to eat out where I can do a "carb ratio test"?

I was given a Libre sensor and the thing was terrible. The numbers were way off of my BG numbers, and not in a way that could be attributed to lag. As to carbs, yes, huge portions but I’ve learnt portion control so that’s not an issue.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

So been performing "the pill experiment" on the advise of my consultant over the weekend as my HBA1c was down so much (in the 30s, down from 131), with a morning 4U of basal and 1000mg Metformin with breakfast and dinner. This morning's fasting bloods: 5.9 :) We're extending the experiment...

Can you suggest good places to eat out where I can do a "carb ratio test"?

Yeah, I tried that and they told me to go to customer services once I’m on board.

Can you suggest good places to eat out where I can do a "carb ratio test"?

I don’t think it’s a test the GP, cate team have done but I’m not 100% sure. You know the NHS, you have to push to find out anything from them. As to my reaction, everything was fine last night. Only up once and no cramps. So maybe the first night was just a reaction to losing the bolas. I...

Can you suggest good places to eat out where I can do a "carb ratio test"?

Don’t get me wrong, if it reaches the point of my life or eating meat I’ll chow down on the hind leg of a donkey, but I’m not there yet.

Can you suggest good places to eat out where I can do a "carb ratio test"?

Basically I tried once and as a vegetarian it became way too restrictive. I’m not stupid enough to think I can just live and eat normally, I not a person who thinks eat what you want and up the insulin, but I do want a certain level of flexibility. Back when I was on pills only I didn’t do...

Can you suggest good places to eat out where I can do a "carb ratio test"?

Yes I’m T2 and the fact that Fact wasn’t lost on me. I’m already down below 100 grams of carbs and I don’t want to go Keto.

    Well, I wasn't expecting that...

Thanks, had my retinopathy check about 3 weeks ago and while there are changes there’s nothing that needs action.

    Well, I wasn't expecting that...

So start of the test… Kept everything as normal so had my evening meal that was 41g carbs but took 2 Metformin rather than my bolas injection. 4 hours later I was on 7.1 and by the morning I was 5.3 So this morning had my 27g breakfast, my Lantus, and 2 x metformin and we see what we have at...

Can you suggest good places to eat out where I can do a "carb ratio test"?

I use carbs & cals now and swear by it. However my circumstances have changed (found out just after posting this first post) as it seems I’ve got my HBA1c right down (36) so the consultant wants me to stop the bolas as they think I might be able to return to pills only…

    Well, I wasn't expecting that...

I was diagnosed type 2 some years ago and managed it (or to be exact failed to manage it) with pills. Had a DKA on Jan 23, in hospital for a week where I decided dying wasn’t something I wanted to do right now. So total lifestyle change. 30 mins exercise daily, food portions cut down...

    Well, I wasn't expecting that...

Just phoned up to get my HBA1c... 36. Down for 131. The diabetes care team has told be to stop taking NovoRapid for the weekend, double my Metformin and up my Lantus from 4 to 8. They think I might be able to get back to my body plus pills doing a lot of the work rather than insulin. In...

Can you suggest good places to eat out where I can do a "carb ratio test"?

So I've got my numbers under control at home, with home cooking and the occasional 6" subway, and while keeping my carbs from going too high, I'm not ultra low carbing (around 90g - 110g a day on average) and not taking loads of insulin to compensate (around 3 - 6U depending on the meal plus a...
