    Statins, yes or no?

Yes you're right. Just so disappointed as I was hoping to come off the Metformin this time. Our GP practice is so budget-focussed that they may not agree to a repeat test but I'll try my best to persuade them. I had a test done on first diagnosis and was on statins at the time so the nurse...

    Statins, yes or no?

You're right of course and I'd just about got to that place in my thinking too! Think I'll take readings around my meals today and as you say just accept what must be! I also love my veg so maybe I might increase that as an easier fix. More carrots and swede etc, which at the moment is more...

    Statins, yes or no?

Thanks, I've seen these films. I'm just not sure my DSN has! My GP practice is like something out of the dark ages. They won't prescribe test strips etc and believe in nothing more than annual check ups. On first diagnosis the DSN told me all about eating carbs with every meal and the plate...

    Statins, yes or no?

Thanks for replying. Yes I do have a meter. I've kind of put it away for the next 8 days while on steroids as the numbers were so upsetting on day 1 of taking them. Would I maybe be better to introduce a few extra carbs later in the day? I looked at the advice from diet doctor and he...

    Statins, yes or no?

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling much calmer this morning and have researched a lot more and got my head around the good and bad cholesterol more. I've developed a plan of action: Cutting down on bacon, butter and cream Increasing avocado, oily fish and olive oil intake I'm lucky enough to have a...

    Statins, yes or no?

No I hadn't tried that, just had a look and it's calmed me down a bit. Very mixed picture but not all bad. I really like your suggestion of asking for time to change things. Increase my exercise and oily fish intake - sounds like something I could do. Thanks x

    Statins, yes or no?

Had a blood test the other day as I'm showing signs of neuropothy in my hands and arms. Also looked like the Bell's Palsy I had last year was coming back. I was diagnosed with the diabetes when the Bell's Palsy struck on New Years Day last year. Since then I have lost 3 and a half stone and...

    Hospital Menu for diabetic person

I certainly don't expect a personal service but would have thought that a hospital, of all places, could provide healthy food that's not laden with sugar and other carbs. I've never had a problem finding healthy food elsewhere, just in hospital!

    Hospital Menu for diabetic person

That's all well and good if you're well enough to go trekking off around the hospital, but people in hospital are often not well enough to do so or don't have money with them etc.. On the occasion when the ward orderly lied through their teeth to try and make me eat ice-cream I was in intensive...

    Hospital Menu for diabetic person

I was in hospital having a brain aneurysm repaired completely unrelated to my diabetes. I also have Bells Palsy. The only one of these conditions I can do anything about is the diabetes so the reason I was so upset was due to losing the excellent control I'd taken of my diet and my health. BTW I...

    Hospital Menu for diabetic person

Plain meat would help but the meat when I was in always arrived smothered in sauce or had to be picked out of a stew!

    Hospital Menu for diabetic person

I was in hospital in June in a town quite a long way from home with restricted visiting. I was hungry the whole time and actually had to give in and eat a cheese sandwich at one point. I was absolutely gutted to have to do this but there was literally nothing suitable. The ward orderly tried...

    Type 2

I'm really no expert but it does sound like Low Carb High Fat might be just the thing for you. You can eat chicken and turkey with low carb veg and salad. I eat a lot of eggs and cheese, nuts in moderation, mushrooms, spinach, courgettes. I use cauliflower to make mash or to make rice or...

    Type 2

Hey Edram, don't feel hopeless. Are you newly diagnosed? What have you tried yet? I can take a while to get your head around the whole thing but it IS something you can live with and still enjoy life. I'm tagging @daisy1 who will post some advice that she gives to all first-time forum users...

    Need to stop losing weight

So more nuts, eggs, cheese. I can do that, was just thinking the other day I've not eaten peanut butter for ages so I'll add some of that in. Thanks everyone for your feedback, I love these forums xx

    Need to stop losing weight

Hi all, can't tell you how thrilled I am with the LCHF plan. When diagnosed with type 2 I weighed around 11 stone. I got down to 10 stone 10 before starting on LCHF in February. I'm now down to 8 stone 4 (don't worry about these low weights it's all due to being only 4 foot 11) and my BMI is...
