    Long acting insulin is weird

Hi Nigel, sorry I thought I mentioned in my post that I had already tried putting up my dose in the morning but I only ended up getting low readings just before lunch time (after breakfast readings were still stable).

    Continuous glucose sensor?

Thanks for your reply Harry! I am not using a pump myself but I guess it will probably be the same anyway. Not happy about the size of the thing, hopefully you're right and they have become smaller now

    Continuous glucose sensor?

Hi all, Is there anyone around who has used a continuous glucose sensor in the past? I am going to hospital on Monday get one for a week because nurses want to try and find out why my levels won't stabilise. I have no idea what to expect! How big will the sensor be? Where will it be fitted...

    Long acting insulin is weird

Thanks ever so much! I will try and take my Levemir at 10pm tonight instead of 8 to see if it makes any difference to my levels in the afternoon! :D

    Long acting insulin is weird

Hi Ed! Thanks for your response, that sounds very logical, actually. How did you solve this? I work from 8 until 4 every day, and I'm noticing these levels when I get home after work, which is about 4.30. After lunch I usually check around 2pm at which time they are usually fine. But yes if I...

Oh sorry, forgot to mention that! I split it in two, take one at 8 in the morning and the other dose at 8 at night. :)

    Long acting insulin is weird

Hi all, Things haven't been going too well for me for a long time, but now my ratios have been updated and I'm counting carbs again it's going a lot better. I have started to notice something strange now though and I think it might have something to do with my long acting insulin. Looking...

    Hypo question

Thanks for all the information guys. It's getting a lot harder for me to detect low blood glucoses in time now my average levels are dropping so I am scared that one of these days I might find out too late...

    overtreating hypo

This is what works for me as well. I have been overtreating hypos for years now and thought nothing of it, but I decided that as I want to get my body baby ready (it won't be another year or two before anything like that will happen but you need to be prepared as you know  ) this can't go...

    Hypo question

Hi all I realise this might be a bit of a random question, but I have been wondering this for a while. When you have a bad hypo, is it possible to faint even if you have already eaten something but it hasn't started to kick in yet? And if so, would you regain consciousness once the carbs do...

Can I change to a pump?

Can I change to a pump?

Hi I'm on injections at the moment, but I've been thinking more and more lately about getting a pump after reading so many good things about it from other people. Is it possible to just change to a pump anytime or can I only do it when I can't get my bloodglucose levels under control with...

    Bruises

I use 5mm myself and I always make sure to pinch and inject at a 45 degree angle. I still bruise quite often as well. Sometimes I can't feel the stings at all but other times they really hurt very badly too! I get the bruises mostly when I inject in my stomach but I have them on my legs as well...

    Moving to the UK

Hi Freckles I have moved to the UK myself six months ago (I'm originally from the Netherlands) and everything for me was a really smooth transition. When I got here I went to see my nearest GP and they got me a NHS number and applied for a medical exemption pass, so from then on all my...

Meeting other people with type 1

Hi Unicorn, Best of luck with your buddy group I really wish I had something like that around here! I'm sure everything will work out just fine :)

    Feeling hypo but I'm not

Actually, now you mention it, I think that is what happened to me. I remember not too long ago I felt a bit strange so I tested and my bloodglucose was around 12, but not even half an hour later it was on 2.1! And you are right about the finger pricking problem. I've had quite a few times that...

No DAFNE course at my hospital

No sorry I don't live in or near Berkshire. :( I'm trying to register for the online course at the moment. Curious to see how it's going to be.

    Not injecting to lose weight

I lost half a stone before diagnosis and gained two stone afterwards. Thankfully after a while the weight I gained sort of disappeared again slowly but surely until I got back to my normal weight. My doctors were very worried about me because they thought I was dieting. Quite frustrating because...

No DAFNE course at my hospital

Hmm my hospital didn't mention any alternative. They said you can talk through it individually with the dietitian, but the main reason I want to go to a DAFNE course is because it's in a group. I can understand that they will wait a while before sending you on a course, mainly because in the...

No DAFNE course at my hospital

I just learnt about DAFNE courses, and whereas I already technically know how to count carbs, I still thought it would be a great idea to attend one of these courses just to learn it all again properly, but most of all to meet other people with type 1. I asked my diabetes nurse but...
