    Advice needed about rising HBA1C

Some of the more savvy low carbers use the glycemic index too, or GL index in my case!

    Fat

Like Hana and Graham, I can only confirm that my lipid profile has improved markedly since increasing saturated fats. Trigs have plumetted, HDL up, LDL down and normal blood pressure after years of high! I know the accepted 'truth' is that saturated fats increase cholesterol but I haven't found...

Would be a great start! :D

Splenda .... is it so good?

By the way I've stayed away from all sweeteners, don't want to get used to having sweet things! Though I've never had a particularly sweet tooth anyway!

Splenda .... is it so good?

Agree with the fructose and alcohol parts, but my trig have plummeted since upping my fat intake, my LDL has fallen to and my HDL increased. If these numbers change then I'll look at my fat intake but for now it seems to be working.

I'm afraid here we will have to respectively agree to disagree! Completely agree here, although HbA1Cs are only half the story...

I like the old adage, "French cuisine demonstrates the genius of the chef, Italian cooking demonstrates the genius of God!"

    Advice needed about rising HBA1C

+1 with what everyone else says, whether you call yourself a low carber, low GIer, low GLer, low fat/highfiberer, portion controller or anything else, carb control is vitally important. Kick out the refined white starchy stuff and see how you get on, I think making that one adjustment will...

I feel I need to clarify my point about carb control and medication. I am not saying that they are mutually exclusive, merely that the former has a bearing on the latter! Sorry for any confusion. I did expand on this in my reply to Sue earlier! Thanks

Well it's clearly wound you up but that wasn't the intention. So my statement is both medically incorrect and laughable? Are you seriously suggesting that carb intake has no bearing on the amount of medication needed? That's diabetes 101 Sid! You may well not have a choice in taking...

    Re: To All Members

I'm sorry I didn't intend for this to become a discussion of low carb, I merely wanted to make sure that I was able to share with others what has worked for me. That has been confirmed so thanks Sue & Ken.

I agree Sue, but even when you embark on meds your still have a choice, less carbs or more meds. Now I'm really not taking the moral high ground, many people for whatever reason decide that meds is the best route for them, it's no right of mine to make a judgment on that. But sometimes posters...

    Re: To All Members

Ha ha, it's freaky reading that. As I said to Sue above, I was the archetypal frightened and confused newbie, but the only way to get control both physically and mentally was to absorb as much info as I could. If I can get here Ken, then surely we have to let others have the same opportunity...

    Re: To All Members

You are describing me on diagnosis Sue! My advice was 'no need to change anything, all things in moderation'. That was it, knew nothing of BG levels, HB1Acs, complications, NOTHING. But as long as there is conflicting opinions on what works then there will be confusion. Some posters seem more...

    Re: To All Members

I appreciate this is not a low carb site and I don't wish it to be, that is it's strength, people with differing views can debate. I've always supported this forum, privately and publicly. But surely the only way forward is discussion and debate, how else do we learn? So as long as I can share...

    What to do??

You should test on waking, before each meal, an hour after, then two hours after, then before bed. However given the reluctance to prescribed this isn't do-able, the approach I took was to say it was a short term thing to fid out what foods spike me so I can gain control. Seemed to work with...

In reality though there are two options, carb control or medication. Whichever you choose is up to you of course!

    Re: To All Members

But that is my point Ken, it worked for me, so it can work for others. But it seems that I'm being encouraged not to promote the low carb option. I'm not saying it will work for everyone, but it does work for lots of people. If I got that wrong then fine, so can I clarify that I can advise...

    Re: To All Members

I'm sorry you see it so negatively. So do we not let others know what has worked for us then?
