Does one ever get out of denial over diabetes?

Another pondering over here. I've been diabetic for 11 years, and am 18 now. It didn't help growing up with it but I still feel like it isn't a part of who I am and that if I bury my head in the sand long enough it will go away! I've spoken to a few people who have had it 10, 20 and even 30-40...

    Injection rooms?

Now see I inject the same amount of times as you (more or less!) but I'm fanatic about changing the needle each time! When I was younger I never used to bother, I only changed the needle when I had a new pen! I think I'm trying to induce some good Karma into my diabetes for all the bad...

    Injection rooms?

I dunno seeing as I live and die in skinny jeans, I wouldn't like to put a needle through that! I'd be very put off in terms of sterility of the needle etc etc, though I did used to do it through my fabric trousers in school!

    Insulin information

I've always been led to believe artificial insulin is an appetite stimulant...is that not the case then? (Sorry to hijack OP, although I guess it is on topic and could help your situation too!) I agree with the_anticarb though. I know if I wasn't diabetic I'd hardly eat at all and I'd be a...

    Does insulin freeze?

"I must look after my Insulin !" "I must look after my Insulin !" "I must look after my Insulin !" "I must look after my Insulin !" "I must look after my Insulin !" Can Neuropathy be reversed?

From personal experience, I've found the numbness never goes, but the other symptoms (tingling etc) do fade with tighter control. I'm on Amitriptyline and Gabopentin for my neuropathy which does help... slightly x

    Does insulin freeze?

Ok thanks Cugila - I was going to change it anyway but was just wondering if it did freeze or not! The room it's kept in is just a concrete room as part of the stable block, I keep one there just as an emergency incase I haven't brought one! Thanks for the numpty question answering, will go...

    Does insulin freeze?

Yes, another numpty question off me  Up at the stables today where everything and everyone (yes, including the horses! Mine had icicles hanging off his whiskars  ) was frozen. As soon as I empted water buckets and put them down, 2 minutes later the traces of water left were ice. I...

    Ketones.....

Ahhh glad you're back home. Things like urine infections are a ****** and bump up your levels/ketones so quickly! Hope you're feeling back to normal soon :) x

    Ketones.....

Oh that's a shame. I've been in 4 times this year with DKA, so I can sympathise. Hope you feel better soon! :D xxx

    Ketones.....

I think it depends on the level - quite a lot of bodybuilders stay in a 'ketonic' state in order to burn fat! You also get small amounts of ketones from not eating. For a diabetic? With a high amount? Not too long! You'd develop ketoacidosis and get very ill very quickly. Are you ok, OP? Have...

help for my 4 yr old with the injections???

If you look on the JDRF website, am sure there are resources for kids that include a bear you can inject. If I remember I'll find the link in the morning! Maybe if you 'inject' the bear and explain how good he is etc etc it might give her a bit of confidence? Good luck, must be tough for her at...

Fatty enlarged liver in T1 diabetics?

Hi, thanks for the info :D That's interesing re: causes. I'm neither overweight (24 on BMI) and can't drink due to medication. Are there any other causes do you know? I've had tried to google it but no no avail  If it still hasn't gone down by next clinic in Jan I will be pushing for a...

Fatty enlarged liver in T1 diabetics?

Hi, thanks for your reply. Am just really curious, as I never get to meet many diabetics so this place is my fountain of knowledge and experience! I'm a Type 1 diabetic, so I have posted this in the right section?? I know it's more common in T2 but I was after experiences in T1's as it's rarer...

Fatty enlarged liver in T1 diabetics?

Me again, you must be sick of my frequent questions  Anyhoos, has anyone else got the same condition as me? I do have high cholesterol through my diabetes which is being controlled by tablets, although it has risen from some recent DKAs :( Apparently it's over twice the size it...

    Injection rooms?

I always go into the toilet to inject - not fun hiding in a little cubicle, and God knows what people think when they hear the clicks of me dialling up the units  I'm very paranoid and self concious about it though, and have only recently managed a breakthrough of injecting on public...

What about when I am old?

If I ever make it to old age  at this rate it's looking unlikely, but like everyone else says, we've come a long way from T1 treatment 20/30/40 years ago so chance are there will be all sorts of new treatments and maybe even a cure :)
