    had a bleed....

Thanks Unbeliever. I have an appointment to see my private consultant on 10th July, and will take his advice. I really didn't want them messing around in my eye any more but if I have to have more laser, so be it. It's terrible when things first start going wrong with your eyes, in a way that...

    had a bleed....

Can anyone tell me - is the treatment for a bleed always more laser? I'm really confused now, went to the emergency clinic again yesterday as the bleed seemed to have worsened. Saw a consultant there, he was very brusque and not friendly or sympathetic, he said I would need more laser as the...

    had a bleed....

Is it true that hypos can make you more likely to have a bleed? I had a bad period a couple of weeks ago, moving house so my normal routine was disrupted, we did not have a fridge for a week so lived on takeaways, I was up and down like a yo yo having a hypo every day at one point and then...

    had a bleed....

Thank you both. I know it will be different for everyone, but how long can I expect it to take to disperse. Weeks? months? I am starting new job 6th August so hope it will be gone or at leat reduced by then. Luckily I can still see enough to use a computer and drive but I want it to go by then...

    had a bleed....

Sorry I haven't been contributing to these boards in a while, I was so upset after having lots of laser treatment for my retinopathy that I just wanted to shut it out for a while whilst the laser took effect. But my eye had other ideas unfortunately! I had a bleed on Monday, not a massive one...

    Pregnancy and retinopathy???

Hi there. I developed proliferative retinopathy when pregnant with my first, had two sessions of laser at 36 weeks, went on to have a healthy boy by c section. I was planning to get pregnant again this year but my eyes had other ideas when the PDR came back with a vengeance, I've had to have a...

    lantus manufacturing problem?

It's the solostar pens I use pickle - these are the ones they cannot get. I'm hoping it will ony be a short term problem though and I do have some in reserve, but I am just suprised that they can run out of such an important medicine it's not like people can choose not to take it for a few...

    crisps

poppadum type crisps are not bad on the carbs front. M and S do a bag which is apx 40% carbs, so for 30g would be around 12g carbs which is not too bad in my opinion - perhaps have a low carb meal that evening to compensate if you want a bigger amount!

    lantus manufacturing problem?

I went to get my lantus from boots today and they could only give me 2 pens (script was for 2 boxes of 5 pens). They had more but needed to give them to someone else. Apparantly there is a manufacturing problem and they don't know when they can get any more. Other chemists in the area have same...

    brightning things up

I'm a big fan of the disposable pens, grey for lantus solostar and orange and navy for novorapid, which is good so that they don't get mixed up. So many times my pen is in a different room to my meal, that it makes sense to have a few disposable pens on the go in different locations (handbag...

Eat to your meter and Controlled Carb Regimes

Interesting that you say 7.8 mmol is thought to be a better post prandial limit, as this is the figure given to pregnant diabetics by our dear NHS /NICE guidance, although you have to be 7.8 mmol one hour after eating, not 2, when pregnant.

Bad customer care at eye clinic dept

Moorfields has an advisory phone line staffed by nurses, I found the nurse I spoke to did not know enough about my issue which regarded pregnancy, diabetes and retinopathy, to give a useful answer, but that's not to say other people wouldn't find them useful, or I may find them useful in the...

bad night time hypo - booze related

Last night, I went out for a few drinkies - injected 4u novorapid as there were some beers/ sweet mixers in there (there were no diet mixers available). Came back and had the munchies, so ate a few things including toast and chocolate. Another 4u -I thought that would be about ok. Oh and i had...

    Diabetes UK's dietary advice

DUK/the NHS in general have some sort of thing against low carb diets. A therapist would call it an 'issue'. I think it would be such a u-turn for them to admit that the high carb advice they've been giving diabetics for years is at best not the only solution and at worst downright harmful, is...

Were you told how to match insulin to carbs when diagnosed?

Re: Were you told how to match insulin to carbs when diagnos Interesting. It seems that Carbsrok's mum knew more than SophiaW's dietician! It seems that carb counting was in vogue a while back (60s/70s/80s?) in the form of 'exchanges' but then fell out of vogue in favour of just watching the...

    Two questions...

It all depends on whether he's 'dosing up' his insulin to cope with the influx of sweets/biscuits, or not. If he knows how to dose properly he will be able to inject (in theory) just the right amount of insulin to process the sugar in his blood (this does not just come from sugar in his food...
