Newcomer of an 11yr old girl with Type 1

Hi there, My son will be turning 12 in a month. Diagnosed a year ago, so everything is still fresh in my memory. I will be happy to offer advice, experience from our year long fight. I am not an expert, obviously, just a dad! :)

    Breakfast...Some Ideas Please!!

Almond flour and coconut flour pancakes. Easy to make. Low carb count. Make more and refrigerate, they are good for the next couple of days, if not even longer. My son loves them with peanut butter, marmalade or hazelnut choco spread (low carb ones, at least the labels say so). I even like them...

Getting hypo alerts with libre, blucon and xDrip+

Thanks @Scott-C Past two weeks on xdrip pretty much the same as past two months on libre and glimp. I now know what to expect from the hospital's hba1c. Your numbers are exceptional! Btw, it was a post you wrote, and I read back in November, that made me look into the blucon. Thanks for that too. ☺

Getting hypo alerts with libre, blucon and xDrip+

Out of curiosity, what discrepancies have you noticed in terms of the hba1c calculated by xDrip+ and actual hba1c from blood? My son's been type one for a year now, and his hba1c were 5.8; 5.9 and 6. xDrip now suggesting his current hba1c is 7 (two weeks on blucon and xdrip). I have observed...

Getting hypo alerts with libre, blucon and xDrip+

Thanks for that, @Scott-C. Note icon better than nothing :) My son is on novomix, so there is always carbs and insulin to enter. Thanks again!

Thanks for that! We are on the libre, would the same procedure apply?

Getting hypo alerts with libre, blucon and xDrip+

I managed to secure the blucon on the libre sensor, install xdrip+, set the master and followers. Love it! Works great, with a couple of calibrations. But, I can't figure out where do you enter bolus and basal. I guess the predictions xdrip gives me are not quite correct because I only enter...

    iPort expereince

Hi, Anyone using Medtronic's iPort advance? What's your verdict? My son has been feeling discomfort since he started insulin a year ago, so this should make things better, but it is quite expensive. Anyone with any experience care to comment? Best

Getting hypo alerts with libre, blucon and xDrip+

Hi, My son's blucon just arrived :happy::happy:. Haven't opened it yet. We currently use the libre reader and glimp. I know the blucon uses Bluetooth technology, so it should only recognise bluetooth devices in its vicinity. Now, is there any way that the blucon can send its data to our...

How to do an insulin injection

Hi, A question about the guidance in this video. Why would one need to do the air shot with the needle facing the ceiling? If the reason is to eliminate any air in the pen, then it never worked for me. Every time I tried to do that, there was still air in the pen. What I taught my child, which...

    4 months in

Hi there, My boy is 11, and has been T1 for just over a year. While in hospital we were advised to rotate injection sites. However, soon after discharge from hospital he complained about pain in his thighs when we would inject there. He dismissed belly and bottom from day 1 at home. So we were...

    Libre upload software

Hey Barry, Maybe I am a bit slow, and sorry if I am saying things you already know... if you try to upload from the reader, you will get data for the 90 days (overlapping with the data collected from your app), but also fresh data for the past two weeks of your current sensor. So in my view, you...

    Libre upload software

Hi, I think it transfers into the application all data collected in the last 90 days. The application, however, will display information as per your settings, with ranges from 14 - 90 days, on 2 weeks intervals.

Type 2 Misdiagnosis of diabetes type

Thank you @catapillar There is only 1 confirmed diabetic in the family. My mother has been type 2 for some 10 years now. The doctor asked for the genetic testing only after the antibody tests came negative. In fact she rushed us to hospital to start the process as soon as possible. There was so...

Type 2 Misdiagnosis of diabetes type

They don't say much really. I get the feeling that some things remains untold, or some strange answers are given, which is why I seek answers elsewhere. Next appointment in a month, I hope to get some real answers/

Type 2 Misdiagnosis of diabetes type

I would say. yes, his control is good, with hba1c of 5.6 this spring and 5.9 this summer. He has been on insulin since diagnosis, this January. Started with 30 units a day, which caused many hypos, and the past 6 months he's been on 2 units of novomix in the morning and 2 for dinner. Novorapid...

Type 2 Misdiagnosis of diabetes type

Thanks @Kristin251 . Yes, they seemed quite normal. I will anyway insist on a new test in December. And, no, he is not on any medications.

Type 2 Misdiagnosis of diabetes type

Thanks for your answer @LittleGreyCat. I read @catapillar 's post, but it leaves me with more doubt about my son's diagnosis. I just checked his test results, and mind you, I am medically illiterate, but from what I see, there are four lines with results: Insulin-auto-antibodies (result <0.2)...

Type 2 Misdiagnosis of diabetes type

Hi all, I was searching for the term 'autoimmune' and the engine brought me this thread. Rather than creating a new one, I'll ask here, and hopefully get some answers, hoping in particular to hear from @Lamont D, @catapillar and @Kristin251. My son was diagnosed with T1D this January. He's...

    Type 2 Feeling unwell

Hi, my son has been having high readings the past 3 days, with peaks as high as 17 or 18 some two hours after meals. Fortunately he is on the libre, so we can see the trends, and his sugars do drop in the preferred ranges after a few hours. Do you reckon a bacterial infection can cause higher...
