Morning high read just goes higher without food :(

I’m a “foot to floor” person rather than a “dawn phenomenon” person (my sugar stays around 5.5mmol which is what it is all through the night, until I actually get out of bed and get dressed, whatever time that happens to be. Then it steadily rises to about 7.5mmol and will do that whether I eat...

    A1C freestyle libre

And actually that’s the same for me. They may occasionally match very closely but generally the Libre reads 1mmol lower. Certainly it never reads higher than a fingerprick. So that tbf would more or less account for the discrepancy in my case.

    A1C freestyle libre

My Libre predicted 39 and my actual was 46.

    Very Confusing !

I’ve just got a feeling, Simon, that you’re going to do a fantastic job, I can definitely see you being one of those posters in six months time encouraging newbies with how well you’ve done. I agree with others, test before and after meals and experiment. Perhaps try the Freestyle Libre for...

Type 2 Late spikes- what’s the physiology behind them?

Aiming the question (which is just out of curiosity- I’m not super worried or anything) in particular at our members who are super-knowledgeable about the science behind this thing! I’m type 2 on meds (metformin, dapaglifozin and Ozempic) with a self-funded CGM. I’ve noticed particularly...

What did I eat to raise my blood sugar?

Everyone is so individual. *For me* that meal would not raise my blood sugar at all. BUT (and especially in the morning) lots of other things might. Being cold (and especially going out into the cold, which raises my BG about 2mmol, for about 10 minutes). Having a hot shower. Being stressed...

Measuring Blood Glucose and the effect of medication

My thoughts: I think that the Ozempic does help with first phase insulin response. MetFormin- not really, it just lowers the amount of glucose produced by the liver, Empaglifozin makes you pee out excess glucose so again probably not really stopping spikes as such. Yes you almost certainly...

    When to test

Regarding when to test, realistically I agree with Goonergal that it doesn’t actually matter, because it’s trends that matter more than actual figures. But I also understand the “upsetting” thing. For what it’s worth, my lowest reading of the day is usually either directly before lunch or mid to...

    pre-diabetes, fasting blood sugars.

A benefit of using a CGM such as Freestyle Libre is seeing that the effect of supper the night before is not really an issue ten hours later, at least for me. My levels will be back to normal within a couple of hours of supper (maybe three hours if it was a higher carb meal) and then remain...

    Libre alarms not working.

Plantae - that is meant to happen. The line on the graph is a smoothed average. That particular reading was obviously an outlier (whether it was accurate or not we can’t know) and so it doesn’t get taken into account in the graphs line. Which is kind of a good thing, really, I think. I...

    Thrush

I think I’m correct in saying that our usually renal threshold for glucose is around 10mmol, but Forxiga (dapaglifozin) and empaglifozin reduce this to around 7mmol. So if you can get your BG to below 7 by cutting carbs, the problem should ease. If you struggle to do that, and the thrush is...

Prediabetes low body weight but waist ratio to hip makes me overweight!

I think they said they were 4ft 11 inches and seven stone something, so I’m going with female ;) but many apologies if I’m wrong :)

    Where on earth to start?

Oh my goodness Jo xxxxxxx. I haven’t got anything constructive in the way of advice, I a, just so so sorry to hear how difficult things are at the moment - the amount your are dealing with would be enough to floor *anyone* and you are doing super-well to just be putting one foot in front of the...

Type 2 Where can I buy an Freestyle Libre 3 (UK)

If its continuous glucose monitoring you’re after (ie a reading every minute sent direct to your phone or watch) try the Shuggah app (works with Libre 2, converts it into a CGM)

Just want to say, @Oldvatr, that I’ve just read that thread and am *completely* in awe!

    Has anybody ever had Costochondritis

Well generally an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or naproxen would work best for costochondritis but obviously that isn’t medical advice, it depends whether you are OK taking ibuprofen, whether you have any contraindications etc. If you do take it, make sure it’s not on an empty stomach.

    Experience with restrictive starch rice?

I fry chapati in ghee. Nothing wrong with that :) I don’t these days use a low carb recipe, I just buy them in the shop and freeze them, but there definitely are low carb recipes for pretty much everything! Just google the food you want to make with “keto” in front of it. The sushi sounds...

What next?? Nurse wants a GTT

Your nurse is profoundly ignorant. You don’t “hide” high blood sugars by eating low carb - you just don’t get them in the first place! And if you don’t have them, then you don’t have diabetes complications. There’s not some evil “diabetes fairy” that gives you dodgy feet, eyes and kidneys...

    Experience with restrictive starch rice?

@Stephen Bond - the app I use is called Shuggah I haven’t tried naan because I don’t really like them but I’d have thought that freezing them and then defrosting a cooking would work in the way that it does with bread. It works with chapati which is what I have. My Libre tends to read a tad...

    Experience with restrictive starch rice?

That is a fair point because I probably *am* less insulin resistant (having lost quite a lot of weight since diagnosis). Having said that, went out last night for a “no-holds-barred” Thai meal (and I mean no holds barred, I had both rice and noodles, and a chocolate dessert, as well as sweet and...
