Have you been told this ?

Hi @KK123 yes I think you could be right there.Since diagnosis both Hubby and I have become a bit 'number obsessed' whereas obviously before he could have been (and was) much higher with his BG but blissfully ignorant of the fact. I know there are a lot of diabetics who attend the clinic at our...

Have you been told this ?

I think Hubby's DN was having a hard Monday, When she told Hubby his latest HbA1c result (7.1) Hubby remarked that he was getting closer to the 6.5% where diabetes is diagnosed and obviously hoped to get it lower still. The DN said 'Well 6.5-7.5% really.' As far as I'm aware there isn't a...

    Call me skeptical....

Many people battling with diabetes also struggle with their weight which I guess is why the DN likes to record the patient's weight. When Hubby was diagnosed last June the DN weighed him and suggested a weight loss target. As he decided to follow the LCHF mode of eating he began to lose weight...

    Getting there !

Hubby collected his latest HbA1c result today which was 54 (down from 98 on diagnosis in June last year) or now 7.1% so he was pretty pleased with that  The last month he has been in a lot of pain with the torn quadricep muscle after falling over in the snow, so readings have been a bit...

Blood test results have come back - 1 abnormal result

hi @starry-night-sky I joined the forum to support Hubby who is T2 (I'm not diabetic) but in answer to your question, my BG can often be 2.9-3 and that makes me feel shaky. Generally I just need to eat more. Good luck with getting to the bottom of your issues x

Which Food Supplements Do You Take?

We have a cupboard full of supplements and vitamins ! Personally I take turmeric daily for it's anti inflammatory effects, Vit C, Zinc and Echinacea if I feel a cold coming on in the winter months. Hubby takes Basil, Cinnamon, a Multi-Vit, Milk Thistle, Carnosine and has in the past taken...

    Statins,Aaaaaaargh!!!!!

@Guzzler I had to hide a smile when I accompanied Hubby to the Drs last week. As he was lecturing him for not taking medication he actually turned to him and said 'For goodness sake you should be on statins at your age !' (he's 53 and has no intention of ever taking them) Statins are evil imo...

    Shingles vax

thanks @Rachox that's how I read it too but as you say it is worded somewhat confusingly on the website. My mum still works (in a nursing home looking after the 'old' people  ) so has exposure. I might tell her that she needn't wait until her birthday.

    'It's your Diabetes.'

Hi @JJFDiabetic Hubby has been testing himself since about 2 weeks after diagnosis, one of the first moves I made was to buy a BG monitor ( we already have a BP machine) so he has a very good idea of how his BG behaves. His Dr has 2 HbA1c results and another will be with the surgery by Monday...

    How low is too low?

hi @tom_r_orr sounds like you are doing everything right and seeing the positive results -so well done ! I wouldn't worry unduly about that reading, BG can fluctuate a lot throughout the day and if you had skipped dinner, consumed alcohol and had your meds then you could well get a random...

    Shingles vax

Morning All, A quick question about the shingles vax ( not diabetes related I know) as I know that some of you on here have had the vaccination. Was talking to my mum about it last night and she said that she was going to book for one after her birthday. I thought it was available to people...

    Type 2 Is it Neuropathy

hi @Peadair O Brionn there are many causes of neuropathy and we are not doctors here. Diabetic nerve pain usually begins in the fingers and toes and develops after BG has been running high for a while. Your HbA1C on diagnosis was only borderline. Have you had your Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D...

    CONFUSED

hi @gavmoulds welcome to the forum, have a good read around the forum and ask anything that you need to know-everyone is very supportive here. You might find that you are given conflicting information regarding what is 'healthy' for a diabetic. You need to reduce carbs as well as obvious...

    Turmeric. Good/Bad??

hi @deathbycoke the best way to incorporate herbs and spices is to add them to your food....as others have already said but if that isn't possible/desirable then supplements can be very useful. Basil can be used to help a variety of medical conditions but has been used (in the East) for a long...

    Frustration’

keep doing what you are doing @Jessiefless xx Our HCP providers don't take a holistic view of patients unfortunately. We are all stats and data to them, the amount of times I've accompanied my Hubby to apps (he is T2) and thoughts that the entire consultation is just an exercise in number...

    Reversal of Type 2 Diabetics

Hi @Murali 2 and welcome to the forum. Diabetes is a label that remains with you for life but many people can achieve non-diabetic levels of blood glucose control so consider themselves 'well controlled'. T2 is a condition of carbohydrate intolerance (and everyone has different levels) so a...
