    cholesterol ratios/levels ?

Can someone point me in the right direction as I'm sure there is a thread (probably several) on here somewhere explaining about the ratio between LDL/HDL and trigs on a cholesterol test ? I can see from Hubby's latest cholesterol test that all his numbers have altered...LDL down, HDL up and...

First HbA1C results since diagnosis !

Is it really ?? Hubby's diabetic nurse told him the opposite and our surgery give HbA1c in percentages....hardly inspires confidence does it ?!

First HbA1C results since diagnosis !

Evening Lovely People, Hubby had his first review since diagnosis and we are very pleased with his results. (HbA1c should have been done in September ? but surgery was running behind so he had it done early November) Diagnosed in June with HbA1c of 11.1 (98 in old money) tested at start of...

    CoQ10, diabetes, statins

Several drug companies proposed twice for a duel patent to include CoQ10 in with their statins but were turned down on account of the cost. As statins are often prescribed for long term use, I would advise taking a CoQ10 supplement they deplete the body of this enyzme and this leads to muscle...

Feeling the need to moan !

Thank you everyone for the vote of confidence. Passed your comments on to Hubby and they were appreciated. I guess the DN can't help coming across as patronizing-maybe it's in her job description ! Thank goodness for this forum-the support is invaluable.:) xx

Feeling the need to moan !

Afternoon people, Just popped on because I feel the need to have a little moan and this is the safest place to do so. Hubby went along for blood tests this morning (repeat HbA1C and cholesterol-first ones since diagnosis in June) and the nurse asked him how he was getting along. He replied...

    Urine test ?

thanks everyone for your replies. Hubby had blood tests to check for kidney function and everything was clear/normal which is why I wondered why they had asked. Knowing our surgery it's probably just another 'box' they haven't ticked.... he isn't worried, we were just curious :)

    Urine test ?

A quick question - Hubby has now made his appointment for his first HbA1C test since diagnosis back in June. He has been asked to bring in a urine sample. Anyone know why ? His urine wasn't tested previously-just wondered what they are looking for... thank you x

    Pepsi Maz?

Hello both :) My Hubby is T2 and when he had a diet lemonade at the pub and later tested himself his BG had gone up to 14. (He hadn't eaten just had a drink so knew it was that) Diet soda drinks will spike your BG in exactly the same way as regular fizzy drinks. All you are doing is saving the...

Should cholesterol blood test be a fasting one ?

thank you !- I shall tell him to skip his morning coffee then. I don't think he can face another argument with the DN over statins !

Type 2 How can I lower my BG levels?

Hi Heidi and welcome, Much of your diet is very good but as others have said above I would avoid the banana and pineapple as both contain a lot of fructose-ordinarily they are healthy options but for a diabetic contain too much sugar. Corn on the cob is also too starchy for many T2s (all carb...

Should cholesterol blood test be a fasting one ?

Afternoon Everyone, At long last the surgery have gotten around to calling Hubby for his 3 month (nearer to 5) month blood tests. As one will be for cholesterol levels should that be a fasting one ? The surgery say that it doesn't matter but my gut feeling is that he shouldn't eat beforehand...

    Type 2 Blood glucose levels

Hi Mike- welcome to the forum. Everyone is different but if this helps....my Hubby was diagnosed in June with the same BG as yourself and immediately adopted the low carb diet, cutting out potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, reducing cereal, stopping cakes/biscuits/chocolate/fruit juice/starchy root...

    HbA1c Test

Other dietary adjustments that you could try (if you want to avoid statins) to help reduce cholesterol are... add more garlic, try psyllium husks and dress salad with flaxseed oil. Drink green tea, take ACV or Aloe Vera juice. Add blueberries to your yoghurt. Magnesium is a natural statin and...

    Pat yourself on the back.

I often read on the forum how T2 diabetes and getting in control of the condition is a marathon not a sprint. It's true and I also believe that it's important to remind yourself how far you have come and feel positive about all improvements along the way. Hubby was diagnosed T2 4 months ago...

Hubby does this with radishes-puts small amounts into salads.

What stress does to bg levels

I would absolutely agree that stress impacts on BG levels. Hubby ( he's the diabetic one not me) is a very cortisol sensitive person. If he has deadlines to meet at work, a poor night's sleep, fighting a cold or in pain then his BG shoots up. Even on holiday it went up cos the plane was delayed...

    A feeling of sunburn

yep - yep sunburn sensation and shingles in same area so I'm thinking there is a connection. His glucose levels are much lower than they were so I don't think it is connected to diabetes. Thanks for the tip about capsaicin cream, might have a look for that. Yes I'd heard about the shingles...

    A feeling of sunburn

thank you everyone for your replies and yes it was amitriptyline that was offered. I have heard from others that it can take months/years to finally clear up. Pretty sure it is post herpetic neuralgia. I think he is just unlucky as I know quite a few people who have had shingles and didn't...
