Any tips for lowering blood sugar when it’s high for no obvious reason?

Hi, I had an emergency GP appointment, where he prescribed insulin, there wasn’t really much of a conversation which was a little bit disappointing. I then had a much better appointment with a nurse where she went through everything. The insulin doesn’t seem to be working at all. I have been...

Any tips for a type 2 moving onto insulin?

Hi @kitedoc, I have attached a c peptide test I had done around a year ago, as my GP had previously said he wasn’t 100% sure I was type 2. LADA was mentioned but I’m not sure if the test was completed properly. I’m going to take 6 units of humulin in the evening while still taking the rest of my...

Any tips for a type 2 moving onto insulin?

Thanks @kitedoc for your reply. My bs is always slightly higher than it should be. 8-10 most of the time. It’s been between 15 and 20 this last week. It has been this high a few times before, either due to a cold or medication failure. I’m currently on metformin, gliclazide, pioglitazone and...

Any tips for a type 2 moving onto insulin?

Ive had a week of high blood sugars despite eating low carb and exercising regularly. My GP this morning has put me onto humulin. I’d love to hear from others about their experience of moving onto insulin.

Any tips for lowering blood sugar when it’s high for no obvious reason?

Thanks for your replies, it seems to have crept up over the last couple of days. It’s normally between 8 and 10 which is still higher than it should be. I take a fair bit of medication. Metformin, gliclazide, pioglitazone and Trulicity.

Any tips for lowering blood sugar when it’s high for no obvious reason?

I frequently go to the gym including today and generally eat low carb, but I can’t get my bs down today. Was 16 this morning, 17 at lunch and now 20 before dinner. Have eaten full fat Greek yogurt with berries and sunflower seeds for breakfast. Snacked on some celery and peanut butter. Had a...

    Temper tantrums

Thanks BigMoose, I really hope things improve for you. I think stress and pressure is what is causing some of my issues although mine isn’t work related, more weight and medical professionals making me feel bad about myself. I have started seeing a therapist and shared some of my issues with...

    Temper tantrums

I hate to admit it, but you may be right... I’ve been doing a lot of thinking over the past few days. I have thrown a laptop . This is how I have been previously when my blood sugars have been high. But it’s different this time, they are relatively stable and my weight is one of the biggest...

    Temper tantrums

Thanks Jeannie, really helpful advice, I need to be able to pre-empt it. Sadly I realise what I’m doing when it’s too late. It’s really refreshing to hear that you have experienced it from both sides. I spoke to my pooor bf last night and he feels like he is constantly waiting for me to explode.

Thanks for the idea, but my blood pressure has been normal the last few times I’ve had it checked.

    Temper tantrums

Thanks Linhil, I think some of mine could be when I’m feeling tired and fatigued. I’m a bit like you in the mornings... I have a tea before I go to work and then usually eat breakfast a few hours later. My stress levels definitely go up as the day goes on. I have more tantrums in the evenings...

    Temper tantrums

It’s an alpen light bar, 10 or 11 g of carbs. It’s normally my go to for something to eat before The gym. Not really sure if that’s the right thing to have or not. I struggle knowing what to eat before the gym. I will test away. I do find it very useful!

    Temper tantrums

Thanks Resurgam, As my sugars are normally higher in the morning (dawn phenomenon) I normally try to eat least carbs with my breakfast then allow myself a little more throughout the day. I will give it a go though!

    Temper tantrums

Thanks for some really useful advice. I agree with you, I’m worse when something comes out of the blue. But I think I also have a habit of over reacting and taking things the wrong way. I don’t have trouble sleeping, but I definitely think I could do with looking into mindfulness.

    Temper tantrums

Thanks Sue, I’m glad I’m not the only one it has happened to. I will try to stop and breath... trouble is I normally don’t realise how I have reacted until it’s too late and spend the next hour beating myself up as I’ve behaved like a complete idiot. I really hope we can work things out, but I’m...

    Temper tantrums

I’ve been told by the GP that I sometimes test too often, when I test before and then two hours after a meal it normally goes up by around 2. A typical days food - breakfast scrambled egg and grilled bacon with a cup of tea. Lunch salad with chicken and Parmesan cheese, a few strawberries...

    Temper tantrums

Thanks Guzzler, I will try testing when mid tantrum- although I think it’s when I’m higher rather than lower. I do get stressed very easily so yes I am probably stressed at the time.

    Temper tantrums

Thanks Sally/James, my blood sugars can still be all over the place a times for reasons I can’t work out. I test my blood a few times a day and eat as low carb as I can. I struggle with my sugars rising after the gym. I’m now on metformin, Gliclazide, pioglitazone and inject Trulicity once a...

    Temper tantrums

does anyone else get easily annoyed/ frustrated/angry/ upset with thier loved ones for the tiniest of things? I’ve only been like it since I’ve been diagnosed in 2014. This week I’ve been so bad I’ve pushed my lovely boyfriend away who says he can’t cope with me anymore (I don’t blame him) Has...
