What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

7.9. Up again. I blame the small slice of Victoria sandwich I had yesterday. Well, it would be rude to refuse a friends gift. Wouldn't it? ;)

NHS Direct doctor says... NO testing when taking Metformin

This happened to me last month while clearing/digging the garden. I saw Dr, diabetes Dr too, Wednesday. I asked for strips and was refused. Quoted diabetes specialist consultant answer to my question about this. Then said it was my right to have the as 'changing' lifestyle. I was going to pull...

    Missing a meal?

I love chicken, ham and cheese. It's really nice in a mixed salad. A small piece of each amongst dish/plate of salad. I'm not too keen on Greek yoghurt though. At work it's usually fruit and yoghurt during the day or sometimes porridge or weight watchers soup.

    Test strips stopped

Try taking a copy of Nice guidelines with you next time you ask. Highlight the testing strip part, 1.4 I think, and say it's within your rights to have them. Try using the wording from the guidelines. I took them today as backup but didn't need them as Dr caved in once I said I'd spoken to...

    Why can't t2 get a meters n test strips?

I went to see doctor today. Normally I go once a month to be weighed as on diet. But doctor wanted to see me. :-( I told her I'd spoken to diabetes specialist about T2's getting testing strips. Once I told her he said I should get them as it was my right she gave me a prescription. Only for 50...

What are your diabetes management goals for the next 3 months and how will you achieve it?

My aims are to lower BG levels to between 5 and 6 consistently, lose at least a stone in weight and lower hb1a. Just had blood test today so hopefully it's gone down from 7.6 last one 3 months ago.

    Beconase

I've used Beconase for last two years and I've not noticed a rise in BG readings. Really good and clears quickly

NHS Direct doctor says... NO testing when taking Metformin

I agree with bewildered. It is a cost issue. I saw my doctor this morning, armed with copy of Nice guidelines, and asked. I told her I'd spoken to a diabetic specialist at an event I went to and he said I should have them. Especially as I'm losing weight. Therefore a lifestyle change as in...
