9 month honeymoon period over, on to Carb counting

Sorry to hear the honeymoon is over. I'm coming up to 6 months and keeping my fingers crossed it lasts for a bit longer :) Oh and wishing you success with the carb counting.

    smoking

Very well done. I bet you'll be down to zero by the weekend :)

    smoking

I found 'What's in it for me' was the incentive to give up. I had a new grand-daughter in August last year and was told that I couldn't cuddle her if I'd had a ciggie within the last 30 minutes. Bit harsh I thought, but then I did understand, my son and DIL not wanting her inhaling smoke fumes...

    3 square meals a day?

I understand the 'crutch',Try if you can. It's not easy by any means, but it's worth it

    3 square meals a day?

Just picking up on the comment made by @noblehead, I was a life long smoker and knew I risked heart disease, but then I was diagnosed as T1, so in effect, my risk doubled. I could either give up smoking or give up diabetes......No choice really.......... I stopped smoking 5 months ago :) As an...

    Glucose Tablets

Gluco tabs also come in rigid plastic tubes with a tight fitting lid, perhaps not the best idea if you're fumbling around due to a hypo, but they don't come loose in a pocket. I see you're T1 and on insulin, so I'm guessing you have a meter and use test strips. It's just an idea (I've never...

    Problem!

This is of no benefit to your current predicament, but something for the future. Once I had needles, strips and lancets on repeat prescription I would put the repeat in 3-4 days early each month and got away with it. Over the months, I have managed to stockpile all of these items, so if I'm...

Will my dad be okay walking home from a diabetic eye screening?

I can't speak for your Dad, but my eyesight was ok afterwards. I just needed sunglasses to protect from the bright light. Is there anyone that can walk with him to be on the safe side?

    Cramp

Definitely agree with more salt. I started a LCMF diet 4 months ago and started getting cramp in my legs. Never suffered from it before. I learned from the forum it could be lack of salt, so started adding it to my meals. No more cramping :)

Got a large nutcracker to hand???? I think you might need one ;)

    Libre disposal

I've just tried to disembowel one (as @Brunneria said) and it's impossible. If there is a needle lurking about it's well hidden and out of the way. As @CarbsRok says, it's in its own sharps container.

    Libre disposal

I dispose of mine in the household rubbish. The sensor doesn't really contain a needle, more like a filament. I don't think anyone is going to stab themselves on that. If you're really worried, try snipping it off with some nail scissors.

    Carrot Soup

I made carrot soup just after Christmas as I had so many left over and wondered what my reaction would be. I was pleasantly surprised to see a spike of only 0.9 after 1 hour and back to where I started after 2 hours. You really need to test after 1 hour and then again after 2 as you might...

    M&S ready meals

M&S Main for Two - Chicken, Leek and bacon has 2.2g carb per half pack. There are two other variations to this range that are equally low in carbs. I think one has ham and the other mushroom. I always keep some in the freezer as I find them delicious and I only have to add fresh veg.

The sadness of being ignorant of their own diabetes

Why not suggest he joins DCUK as he seems totally confused. That way, at least you've pointed him in the right direction. If he chooses to ignore you there's not much more you can do.

How do we have a low carb Christmas?
