    Slow release Metformin or regular?

I was a lot worse on the slow release version although a nurse at the doctors surgery said that was nonsense! How would she know she was not in the loo all the time with me!

    Metformin TR issues

Metformin made me feel dreadful and the slow release one was even worse. Not typical I know. I started the LCHF diet and was much better even though I still had to stop the metformin. A diabetic nurse at my surgery did not agree with this told me I shouldn’t have stopped this at all, but then...

Victoza- does it get any better?

I don’t suffer from side effects with the victoza but don’t think it does much to help. I too suffered with metformin and even worse with the slow release one. I do need to take omeprazole though but this is now down to about 3 a week. Hope it gets better soon for you. If it doesn’t go back to...

    Refused test strips

I was supplied the True You meter by my GP (Lanarkshire) and found it dreadful. Apart from the fact that the batteries kept falling out it did not give me nearly enough information. I too have a contour next one and brought my HbA1c down from 60 to 50 and finally persuaded my GP to prescribe...

    hypo on metformin

You can hypo on metformin although many people say no. I’ve had it before I was on insulin! You have to be careful about alcohol it affects different people differently. You have to keep checking your blood sugars. If you don’t have a meter get one ASAP. a hypo especially your first one can be...

    Help I can’t lose weight

I think you are eating to many carbs. If you cut out porridge, rice, bread and potatoes that might help. Have a look at the low carb diet programme for ideas. Although I am type 2 on insulin it can be very difficult. Also get your doc to check for other causes. I have a slightly under active...

Eating low carbs but High readings

I couldn’t get my readings to come down or lose more weight but had bloods checked again and apparently I have an under active thyroid. Now on tablets and bs readings going down and weight going in right direction too!

    Increasingly frustrated by GP

Our surgery will not tell you your results face to face something to do with “data protection “ but I am lucky enough to stay in Scotland and have signed up to My Diabetes, My Way. All my results are available there.

    New Snack Identified!

I make my own pickled onions every year and I have a queue of relatives wanting them. The only problem is I hate peeling the little bu***rs! They taste great though. Crunchy and even perfect on their own but lovely with a bit of cheese!

    AgaMatrix Ultra-thin lancets

It probably will fit ok as it’s the gauge of the sharp bit but if in doubt check the manufacturers website to see if they are compatible.

    Anyone remember these syringes?

Just be grateful our diet has more variety now than whisky and cabbage water which was a treatment very many years ago before insulin. Mind you I might manage on the whisky!

    Prediabetes Exhausted

I know you state you are prediabetes but could it also have something to do with the “being of a certain age”. I found that earl grey tea helped and got me through the worst of it. Coping with diabetes and menopause was a bit of a challenge.

Disagreement with doctors about testing strips

That is ridiculous. I’m type 2 on insulin as well but I am lucky enough to get more whenever I need them average 150 per month, I had purchases some myself as I had an ongoing argument regarding the meter the doctor supplied me with.it was rubbish but I finally won!
