    Interpreting urine cpeptide/creatinine ratio

I had no idea that this test even existed! I wonder how it is priced relative to a venous blood c-peptide? Noting especially that it is taken two hours after a meal, whereas the IR test that I had a while back was a fasting test.

How do I do low protein plus low carb diet?

An interesting if scattergun review. Nothing very specific about anything. Noting that the GFR bit mentioned "excess water" but didn't define it. Here we hit the oft repeated question of "how much water is enough?". The author seems to take the view that if you are not thirsty you are...

How do I do low protein plus low carb diet?

I think we may be at cross purposes? I have my eGFR test as part of my 12 (or less) month check up by a blood draw from my arm at the surgery. That doesn't tie in with testing as soon as you woke.

A question to all you Intermittent fasters please!

I find that if I reduce my food intake a lot, then I am not inclined to eat, and easily fill up. I think part of it is the stomach shrinks when it is usually (almost) empty. I find that after a day or so of not really feeling hungry I get some appetite back. One bulky meal also cancels out the...

How do I do low protein plus low carb diet?

Noting in passing that I found that if I drank a lot of water (2 litres+) for a couple of days before my blood test my eGFR improved markedly. I (possibly wrongly) concluded that my kidneys were still functional and my usual fluid intake was not enough to flush them through thoroughly. I think...

Are low carbs equivalent to low sugar?

Sugar is a very fast acting carbohydrate. Low carbs implies low sugar, but you would generally be better off eating non-sugar carbs where you do eat carbs. The main thing to beware of is foods labelled low or no sugar, because these can have all sorts of other carbs in. Edit: the only time for...

Noting that I haven't had that side effect from the drops. I had my screening yesterday.

Type 2 diabetes: losing weight the cure?

Mixed messages. Exercise alone can make you fitter but to really lose weight you have to change what and how much you eat. However walking 6 miles a day is generally a good thing for ones health, all things being equal. As already suggested, it depends what is causing your diabetes. If excess...

The science based vs internet keto (low-carb)

Who hasn’t seen there GP in years

I haven't seen my GP since before the pandemic, but I have had a couple of phone consultations. Surgery is organised so that most work is done over the phone unless you need poking and prodding, or vaccination/blood taken. It isn't the service I have been used to all my life, but the NHS is in...

    Gliclazide

Might be worth posting in the DVLA bit? I didn't think you had to declare Glic to the DVLA unless you had already had an uncontrolled hypo?

Help-Libre Free / Finger readings very far appart

Thanks. That may explain why some green dots (for readings) are outside the long term lines. Guessed and got it wrong then adjusted the graph later.

Help-Libre Free / Finger readings very far appart

How long has shed had the current one attached? Sometimes they take a few days to settle down. Also, I have had an alarm over night when I was leaning (sleeping) on the sensor and it went very low. Came back up to a reasonable value over the next few minutes. The Libre cannot be trusted to be...

Is a very low carb diet healthy?

That is (I assume) based on the assumption that the body is using carbohydrates for energy, and so is the sum of the energy requirements, plus the additional metabolic requirements for glucose. Glucose is needed for parts of the brain (because ketones cannot pass the blood/brain barrier) and...
