What does a successful extended bolus look like?

Yeah could you explain a bit more? Cause like you say that does sound good, so what’s issues with that?

What does a successful extended bolus look like?

One of the things you hear a lot of with Extended Boluses is "it's trial and error", which I don't dispute there's no way round that. The thing is to determine if something is an error and the cause of that error you have to know what success looks like and that's something, as I refine my...

Type 1 Sudden increase in insulin sensitivity

Losing weight does effect insulin sensitivity. If I lost the amount of weight you lost my sensitivity would spike to. This is why starting points for Basal doses are tied to your weight.

    High readings

I feel it's worth adding some context to all this. Graham's posted a few times in the Type 1 forum, so I'm pretty sure his wife's Type 1 and not Type 2. The advice he has been given is consistent with what inexperienced Type 1's are given, without going on a massive tangent, let's just say...

Sudden Rise in BG on waking

Well it certainly sounds you need more Basal as you’re essentially using Novorapid as a Basal replacement, if you’re still taking it when you don’t eat. If your Basal dose was sufficient you wouldn’t need Novorapid in the absence of food.

    Coffee?

I’m inclined to agree but the easiest way to be sure is go a morning without eating or drinking anything (except water) and see what happens. Will let you know the baseline you’re working from.

When do you inject an adjustment dose?

I’d say the simplest method is this. If you’re finding taking action after 2.5 hours as premature. Wait till three hours. Keep an eye on the success or failure you take at that time and if you have to increase it again, do. There’s obviously other approaches but for getting rid of the...

    Any help/advice

Don't want to overcomplicate things, but are these fast drops that you're seeing on your Libre and only your Libre? Because I can tell you from experience if my levels get super high and I scan my Libre whilst it's dropping the Libre vastly overestimates the size of the drop. There's two ways to...

Need urgent help with bizarre blood sugar drops

So weird coincidence. I’ve also been altering my Calorie Intake recently. In my case, I was losing weight so I decided to increase my Calorie intake to stop the rot, but I was already eating the maximum amount of Carbs I thought was healthy. So I increased my Calorie intake exclusively by...

Sudden Rise in BG on waking

This was exactly my experience with Levimir also.

    Feeling out of control

Is it only after Meals you're going Low? If so, like you say reducing your Bolus: Carb ratio should fix the problem. If you're getting Lows at other times, you might have to look at your Basal.

    Silly question about Hypo's

The symptoms of a hypo are a mile long and I’ve experienced different ones and different times throughout my life, with the most intense symptoms at the lowest numbers (not surprisingly). Whilst you might feel fine at a low level that doesn’t mean you are fine, and you should treat appropriately...

    Avoiding a vein

Yeah, I’m pretty skinny and catching a vein was extremely rare for me as long as I pinched the site.

I have had the omnipod Dash since December

If that was me, I’d suspect there were other issues to solve than just the pod change issue. Do you normally see highs (or higher than typical readings) in the morning?

I have had the omnipod Dash since December

Hi Heather, had the Omnipod Dash for a similar length of time as yourself and experienced the exact same issue. What resolved the issue for me was switching my Pod Change time to just before bed as 1) this would mean I wasn't eating during the time my Blood Sugars were running higher- this...

    Anti-spike strategy

What would be the purpose of eliminating shallow spikes that resolve themselves quickly?

    Anti-spike strategy

It's not so much that your method is complicated is that one wrong move and you could end very hypo very fast. For instance, unexpected physical activity whilst you have excess Bolus on Board could cause your Blood Sugar to plummet rapidly. If you're looking for other methods of controlling...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

I had similar issues to what you're describing a while back and I found pre-bed snacks helped a lot*, as they were out of my system before the dawn phenomenon hit. It's just a matter of figuring out the right carb portion size, and GI fit your needs best (that took me months to figure out)...

    Rollercoaster day - why?

That eliminates a few possibilities. So you mentioned you were active once you caught the spike, what were activity levels like prior to that?

    Rollercoaster day - why?

Did you eat any food that’s atypical for you?
