    Could I possible be a T1?

If doctors are testing for possible T1 they will test for GAD,so I suspect your doctor has already tested for them. Sadly, while the presence of antibodies can confirm T1/LADA, their absence doesn't prove anything either way. One out of four T1s/LADAs won't test positive for antibodies. I...

Another potential nail in LDL's coffin ?

What are you referring to ? The video ?

Another potential nail in LDL's coffin ?

Thanks for the clarification @DaveKeto. That's a lot clearer. Loving your work. Geoff

Another potential nail in LDL's coffin ?

You're quite right. Being a keen Arsenal fan, I made the mistake of starting a thread before a match I was watching closely. My fingers were racing ahead of my brain. Geoff

Another potential nail in LDL's coffin ?

Think of particles as passengers on a train. They hop off at their station then get on again after their visit.

Another potential nail in LDL's coffin ?

In the Friedewald Formula, yes. Remember 46% was only an attempt at a best fit, so LDL is always to some degree estimated. Given LDL is in the RC equation, RC has to be somewhat estimated (in opposite direction to LDL mis-estimation). Confusing, isn't it ?

Another potential nail in LDL's coffin ?

Triglycerides are not a sub-division of cholesterol. Both are lipids. Trigs transport cholesterol.

Another potential nail in LDL's coffin ?

Dave Feldman, author of the Cholesterol Code website, has just published a new article http://cholesterolcode.com/remnant-cholesterol-what-every-low-carber-should-know/ I'd never even heard of remnant cholesterol, yet he concludes "I’m hesitant to name any single lipid marker as the “best” one...

    Could I possible be a T1?

Hi Jazmin my twopennyworth is that you MAY well be T1. Weight loss before diagnosis is typical for T1. A pancreas that's still producing insulin, but at a lower level, is indicative of T1. The presence or absence of antibodies is not definitive either way. I lived with a declining or absent...

It's time to replace the Friedewald Method for calculating LDL

TC, HDL, and trigs are all measured. LDL under whatever formula will always remain an estimate, so you can't invoke an unknown and change a total. Trigs are used in calculating LDL because they're a surrogate for VLDL, which isn't so easily measured.Neither are trigs a fixed percentage of TC...

It's time to replace the Friedewald Method for calculating LDL

That's great for the informed. Not so great for the misinformed or the ill-informed. Like you, I don't care about a stand-alone TC/LDL figure.I care about as-true-as-possible figures. It's the libra in me;) Geoff

It's time to replace the Friedewald Method for calculating LDL

Dr Michael Eades : "I’ve always thought the same held true for triglycerides under 100 mg/dl, which would apply to almost everyone who sticks to a low-carb diet for any length of time. Triglyceride levels of 40-90 mg/dl are not uncommon, and are, in fact, typical. When Friedewald did his work...

It's time to replace the Friedewald Method for calculating LDL

Yesterday I managed to get my LDL down from 3.6 to 3.1 in next to no time. Since LDL, the so-called 'bad' cholesterol, is one of the figures your doctor may use to frighten you into statins, you may want to see if you can get yours down as easily. LDL can be directly measured, but since this is...

triglycerides / fish oil / flaxseed oil

Wow ! If you were at twelve, you'll see quite a reduction next time. Remember to have an early fasting bloods next time. Eating increases the amount of trigs circulating in your blood. Geoff

triglycerides / fish oil / flaxseed oil

No direct experience,Tom, but this article and comments suggest only fish oil will reduce trigs, though flax seed oil may boost HDL. https://www.consumerlab.com/answers/is-it-better-to-take-fish-oil-flaxseed-oil-or-both/fish_or_flax_oil/ One of the easiest ways to reduce trigs is to reduce...

    Less insulin better health?

I've noticed how increasingly, as the old lipid hypothesis is discredited (which claimed high cholesterol led to heart disease), that modern health commentators cite two main causes of heart disease : inflammation and hyperinsulinemia/insulin resistance. Here's Ivor Cummins on insulin resistance...
