    Insulin hard to push out

I'm wondering if you're describing what I've sometimes experienced. Dial up the units on the pen, do an air shot, inject and the rotating end with your thumb on it doesn't want to move. Often I've found my thumb is applying pressure but not in a pure downward direction. Try adjusting your thumb...

    Ketones

https://drmowll.com/is-the-ketogenic-diet-safe-for-people-with-diabetes/ "The main difference between ketosis and ketoacidosis is that with ketosis, you are making healthy choices that bring about the creation of ketones, but with ketoacidosis, your body is not working properly and the ketones...

Who has the expertise in Type 1 and low carb?

Here's some info for you https://drmowll.com/is-the-ketogenic-diet-safe-for-people-with-diabetes/ DKA occurs when your blood sugars are raging out of control. The odd spike doesn't come anywhere near to DKA Geoff

Who has the expertise in Type 1 and low carb?

You appear to be mixing up (a) ketones from ketosis, which are harmless and (b) ketones from very high blood sugars which can lead to ketoacidosis, which are very harmful. Someone in ketosis has nothing to fear from ketones. Geoff

Type 2 journey... 3 years in

For those puzzled by these figures the first stated are US (mg/dl) and the second are UK (mmol/L) Cholesterol translates from US to UK by dividing by 38.6 Triglycerides translate by dividing by 88.5 What these figures do is give a US trigs/HDL ratio of 4.8, and a corresponding UK ratio of 2.09...

    Shaking in your sleep

The article looks at iron deficiency as a likely cause, but magnesium levels seem important https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9703590 Almost every week I find another use for magnesium. Earlier this evening a UK GP tweeted that cows had to be supplemented with magnesium to keep away 'the...

    Shaking in your sleep

I used to suffer from Restless Leg Syndrome, which often made me kick my legs while dropping off. As a child I also suffered from fumbling, whilst asleep, with bedclothes (there is a technical term for this, but long forgotten to me), which could lead to waking up with all my covers on the...

I'd like to spread the word a bit, can anyone help?

Just some initial thoughts. I'm only up to 5 Various tests. In the last few months I've had an ECG (electrocardiogram) an echocardiogram, an angiogram, and a CT scan. What you describe as a CT scan sounds like an echocardiogram. Mine was exactly the same as this picture...

    Saturated fat - the evidence

I missed out that point whilst thinking I'd made it :banghead: "So if we can live in a psychological space where we might accept sat.fat/avocados/tomatoes/(disliked food of your own choosing) is good for us but that we personally dislike it, then we can be at peace with the world." I should have...

    Saturated fat - the evidence

Everyone is entitled to their own tastes. Just like Jack Sprat and his wife. What I see on this forum is people pushing back against decades of misinformation (akin to brainwashing) People like myself didn't learn about sat. fat and choose to go on an eating spree. There was still a little voice...

    Saturated fat - the evidence

I saw the thread title and thought 'there is no evidence!' and 'this should be good'. Actually there is some evidence : France has one of the highest consumptions of saturated fat. It also has one of the lowest rates of CHD Because this doesn't fit into the traditional Diet Heart Hypothesis...

epichealth is this a fake apps/website

Here's previous discussion about this http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/game-changer-if-it-works.130208/#post-1634483 At this stage they appear to have 500 signed up to their Alpha testing, but their Twitter and Facebook accounts are quiet so far on results. It's a wait and see game. Geoff

    new type 1

Tagging @daisy1 Welcome rarity ! You've little to worry about with your T1D if you learn to control it. It's more about developing good habits than anything. There are many long-lived T1Ds. Just keep asking questions if there's anything you want to know. Geoff

Is there more risk from flu with diabetes?

That person has sleep apnea. "By definition, if you have a sleep-breathing problem, your immune system is overly active. And so is your nervous system. This is why your body over-reacts" http://doctorstevenpark.com/colds-viruses-and-sleep-apnea So we always need to look beyond diabetes. I'd not...
