    Advantages/Disadvantages pump

I don't see a diabetic consultant, I'm pleased to say. There is some money available where I live. I was told this by a local GP that I run with. I think I'll leave this as it stands.

    Advantages/Disadvantages pump

Endocrinologist appointment last week. As I expected and suspected I am not going to get a pump. Too well controlled and far too fit, apparently. Endocrinologist was surprised that I had been referred. I must change my behaviour - exercise less and eat more.

    No pump for me!

Saw consultant endocrinologist yesterday. I am not going to get an NHS pump because I am too well controlled and far too fit. I wonder if there is any incentive for managing my diabetes as well as I have for 57 years? My BMI is 21.8. HbA1c is 37. Tight control. Blood pressure low. Resting heart...

    Started with a BG of 7.9. Mile 7 - 10.9. Finish - 5.9.

Cut basal from 6 to 4. Usual, slightly later in the day, running breakfast of one Weetabix and half a banana. 2.5 units of insulin. Nothing to eat until 6 hours after finishing.

I ran Cambridge half marathon in 1.59.11. No hypos and nothing to eat or drink.

I think a spike after Parkrun is almost inevitable. After all I'm trying hard! Longer, slower runs don't spike BG. And I sometimes think I have been Type 1 for 57 years, I have recently recovered from cancer and I am 66 years old. Many of my contemporaries can't do what I can!

    Thanks for that.

    Running

That was very comprehensive and informative. I have been Type 1 for 57 years and have always exercised a lot. I am 66. HbA1c 37. BMI 22. It does depend a bit on how far/how fast. Things have changed as well since cancer diagnosis and treatment. I am running a half marathon in 10 days. My last...

Anyone running Cambridge half marathon? How is the training going? I don't I am as ready this year as last.

    Advantages/Disadvantages pump

Thanks for that. Plus I am not too sure I would find one any particular advantage. I suppose the only time a pump could be an advantage when running Parkrun as my BG always spikes.

    Advantages/Disadvantages pump

I don't really have many hypos. I have always had a low HbA1c. But I would have thought after 57 years.....

    Advantages/Disadvantages pump

As a type 1 for 57 years I have recently been told that I don't qualify for a pump because I am too well controlled. My HbA1c is 37. I actually am wondering whether to ask again. What advantages/disadvantages might I find? Not too keen to have one attached abdominally as I have quite a few scars...

Worried About Complications - Specifically Eyes

Type 1 for 57 years. HbA1c of 37. Weight of 53 kg. BMI 22. At 66 I am probably fitter than most. No neuropathy. No retinopathy. Even a recent cancer diagnosis and treatment hasn't been much of a difficulty. Back running Parkrun within 3 weeks of cancer surgery. Tight control helps I think.

I actually don't like cake. For some peculiar reasons my food tastes have changed since cancer diagnosis and treatment. I'm really pleased you put epinephrine and not adrenaline.

Many thanks for your reply. Sometimes. But not as much as 6-10 units. I usually accuse my wife of giving me lots of cake! I never eat cake really. Many days I don't have that amount of short acting all day. I had to look up catecholamines. The last time that might have happened was either my...

    Running

I'm not sure I could run half an hour after a banana but I will give that a try. And what sort of exercise do you do? I even ran half marathon without any food. I ate 6 hours after finishing. My hypo awareness is very good even after 57 years. I am quicker than sensor. Reluctant to sacrifice...

I am not too sure when I can inject myself to counteract BG rise. Thanks very much for your reply. It's all very interesting and informative.

    Running

Many thanks for your replies. All very interesting! I would also rather prevent highs than correct them later. But, I start Parkrun with a BG of less than 5 - can't really go any lower. I, of course, can't inject myself half way round to correct BG. Parkrun is weekly - 09.00 every Saturday...
