    Effects of different foods

Hi, What sorts of food did she have with the indian? was it high in carbs? With takeaways the issue is they can be quite fatty, a high fat meal can slow down the apsorbtion of carbohydrates. So the insulin may take affect before the carbs are processed, which can mislead you into thinking...

    Awful experience last night.

It is quite daunting at first when your told you have to take insulin! I had the same reaction as you though, because i was so poorly and felt so unbelieveably rubbish i was willing to, if it was to make me feel better for just one day! You know you can come here for advice about taking...

Ah, great! :) sounds like your getting somewhere! How do you feel about starting insulin? It seems logical as you don't get along with other meds. Glad you got a sensible doc!

    Which pump?

Awwwe, i'm glad he's excited! how old is he if you don't mind me asking? I hope the biopsy is fine, but i'm sure you'll be fine if it is confirmed he has coeliac disease. I really take my hat off to parents of children with diabetes. I don't have any children, nevermind one with any illness...

Fasting blood test - Huge anxiety

I've done a few fasting tests to see if my insulin doses are correct, so i know it's not pleasant sometimes. Keep yourself occupied, don't there clock watching as it's bound to feel worse! Remember to take a snack with you so as soon as your done you can eat and feel better!

    Awful experience last night.

Do you have access to test ketones with blood? Testing ketones in urine can be quite behind, without worrying you i mean your ketones could be higher than what your urine is showing as it takes a while for urine to go through the body so it's not the most accurate form of testing for ketones...

    Is T2 Diabetes always progressive?

Surely most illnesses are progressive, as the body changes and gets older it can no longer maintain the ability to sustain the illness at a certain point? Still progressive or not the whole point is to prevent progression where possible by testing to see how your body is maintaining the ability...

    Which pump?

I agree with what anna marie has said. Be prepared is the best tip. When you first start to do set changes and cartridge changes it can seem so complicated and sometimes you feel like you've forgotten everything you've been taught. Take things slowly and try not to panic if things don't seem...

    a new start, again!

Hi, So sorry to hear your having a tough time. The pump is indeed ALOT of hard work and takes so much effort in the beginning. When a child gets a pump he/she can obviously not be responsible for it all by themselves so in effect it must be like your having one too, i imagine it's difficult...

    Hospital "discharging" type 1 diabetics!

You may be surprised that your GP may have a diabetes nurse. Mine does and i live in a small village! There is also a doctor at my GP who has a son with T1 diabetes so she is always willing to listen to what im saying and will never shoo me out the door! You may find a doctor who doesn't...

Fasting blood test - Huge anxiety

I understand these things can be very worrying. Just think of the relief you will have if you can either rule diabetes out or confirm it.

    getting my licence back

Hi, sorry to hear that happened to you. When first diagnosed i battled for a year for the DVLA to accept i was fine to drive. I have no idea why because i have never had a disabling hypo. never collapsed or required assistance! Three medicals and 12 months later i was happy to receive it...

Fasting blood test - Huge anxiety

If your worried, take someone with you. If it's undiagnosed diabetes then you won't slip into a hypo as your blood sugars will be higher than normal. Either way you need to do this test to either rule out or confirm diabetes. You need to bite the bullet and get it over with, testing urine for...
