    Low Carb Recipes

Black Bean Brownies Found this tasted scrumptious even though the ingredients of black beans in brownies seems very odd. 1 can black beans(rinsed and drained) 4 large eggs 2 tbsps x-tra v. olive oil 1 tsp vanilla extract 230g granulated SPLENDA- (this seemed really high so I used 4oz half spoon...

    fruit juices

Fruit juices depend on an individual's BS reaction to them. Tomato and vegetable juices I find ok. Berries are ok but only about 25g juiced at a time to make about 150ml. Orange, pineapple, mango etc rocket my BS. I can't drink grapefruit and cranberry because of the meds I take. Hope this helps.

is there such a thing ???

I use cauliflower. Sounds weird I know but it mops up a low-carb curry very nicely. Cook as usual and use a ricr to shred. I use half a large cauliflower and 5oz of potato boiled and mashed together to make a really good low carb mash too. Add butter, balsamic vinegar and/or cheese as you wish...

Wish they'd make their minds up

borofergie you're a star! I have bought myself a meter and test strips. I was horrified to find out how carbohydrates affected my BS levels and since I have been type 2 for 5 years that's an awful lot of potential for damage already. Since testing and adopting a lower carb. approach to eating I...

Anyone any ideas about food substitutes for the following?

I am a recent convert to lower carb management of BS. Using different low carb cookbooks and have only recently obtained a copy of the South Beach Cookbook. American cookbooks are great once you convert where necessary but make my head spin at times trying to find / substitute certain...

    Food avalability in supermarkets

I'm a low carber (60g a day) and I used to eat loads of chocolate etc. Most of the time now I have retrained myself not to buy any sweet things BUT when I go out to dinner or have friends round I do. Cooking low carb recipes that were sweet meant I had to stock my cupboard with alternatives such...

    ideas for healthy breakfast?

I follow a lower carb diet(60g a day). I still get a fasting reading of up to 9.3 but all the rest of the readings are now coming down. I was having smoothies for breakfast (including whey proteinn and flax seeds) but my BS would stay high for too long. I now have a smoothie for lunch and...

    confused

I wish I had bought a copy of the book The Diabetes Revolution written by Dr Charles Clark when I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic (mind you it wasn't written then). Reading it the may have prevented me being Type 2 a few years later and saved the NHS money as well. Recommended reading- sensible...

    Tired Eyes

You may be experiencing what's called 'dry eye'. Eyedrops that re-hydrate the eye can be bought from the pharmacy. Mind you it's a while since I experienced this and I may have had a prescription. But I know the drops were a great help.

    Test Meters

I was refused a test meter and strips so I decided to buy my own. How else can you see how different foods affect you personally? I have worked hard at reducing my carb intake and I can now see a good effect on the readings. For me it is worth the money I spend each month but it IS a postcode...

My dad becomes suddenly moody, why does this happen :(

My father was a Type 1 and I can remember being frightened as a child when he used to sit in a corner of the kitchen brandishing a carving knife and laughing. It was only when I was a lot older that I understood that his very odd traits were down to his not keeping his levels steady enough. I do...
