    A new diagnoisee

Welcome to the forum @sykwastaken! :) I too am type 1, although diagnosed after a number of adult years. Type 1 is for life, but the important thing to remember is that you can learn how to manage your blood sugar and live well into your '90s (like Dr. Richard Bernstein, a type 1 himself)...

    Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all of you. I also have found this forum a blessing.

T1D Low Carb study shows sig improvement in TIR

Early on in my diabetic journey I was influenced by the work of Dr Richard Bernstein and his book "The Diabetes Solution" and lowered my carbs significantly, now on average about 80 to 110 carbs per day - less than that and I lose weight. It works very well for me. My blood sugar is nearly...

    Support?

Welcome to the forums @emxfoxx. I didn't have Type 1 at 19 but for other reasons suffered alienation from all significant others, family and friends, when I was 16. I fell into a massive depression for which I was angrily blamed (before the dawn of current understanding). So I know what it's...

    Vegetarian hypo fixers?

I eat an apple for most hypos. If this isn't enough and I'll know within 10 minutes, I keep eating apples or any other available fruit until the hypo is solved. I never go out without an apple or two with me and always have them on hand at home.

Children of a parent with diabetes type 2

I recommend the "type one grit" facebook page. It's mostly for parents of diabetic kids and is good for all types of diabetes.

    Seriously? (Low Carb Advice)

I don't get it - at the start of the attachment it says "false" and there's a box with a square in it. Then, the first sentence says "the amount of carbs you eat has an immediate effect on blood glucose levels". So are they saying carbs have an immediate effect, or not?

    Finland in January

I carry insulin in a bag that hangs around my neck so that the insulin is under my clothes, over my chest.

    High blood glucose levels

Insulin can kill you and quickly if you take too much. Too little insulin kills you slowly. You have to take it responsibly, paying strict attention to the carb content of what you eat, the times when you inject, as well as other factors. Knowledge on the topic is absolutely essential and the...

    High blood glucose levels

If your blood glucose is always high, it usually means you are not injecting enough insulin to cover the carbs in the food you eat. Have you asked your doctor or nurse about your insulin dose?

Type 1 Tresiba & spiking blood sugars

Do you count carbs and dose your short-acting, mealtime, insulin on the basis of an insulin to carb ratio, or, are you on fixed doses? When my blood sugar behaves more unpredictably than usual, I carefully record the food I eat, how much it weights and its carb count. I compare that to the...

    Hypoglycaemia update

@rosie04, I admire your strength and attitude. Wishing you the best of outcomes. Continue to keep us posted - we truly want to hear what's going on with you.

    Be calm. Don't be stupid

You were stacking the bolus insulin. It is dangerous as you have learned. Novarapid {contrary to what the manufacturer claims} might take much longer than 15 minutes to start working and then it might be hours before it works efficiently. Meanwhile you took more and more so it's no wonder you...

    How fast is Trurapi

In my case, Trurapi doesn't seem to start working for 1.5 hours, or at least the amount of insulin that activates before 1.5 hours is very, very little. For me it keeps working for 6 or 6.5 hours with the 'peak' being around 3 to 4 hours.

    Am I imagining this ?

In my opinion, if I were you, I would record a detailed investigation of how much and when insulin is taken, when and how many carbs in the food consumed, and what the blood sugar readings are before and after eating as well as before going to sleep. You may be overlooking something obvious in...

    Am I imagining this ?

Interesting information you provide James472. I very often get stuffy nasal passages without the runny nose as well as throat mucus especially when I get a chill, which I have always assumed to be the immune response to fighting a cold, flu, etc. Often my blood sugar is higher than it would...

What's the maximum a post-prandial rise should reach?

How high do the peaks go? Knowing what your blood readings are and how long after eating you measured them would help with providing an opinion. Some meals also get absorbed faster than others. I personally try to never peak higher than 10 mmol.

    Hi new to this app

Welcome to the forums. Sorry to hear about your mum. I'm sure others will be along shortly who will be able to help you. Many Type 2s here follow a very low carb diet and put their diabetes into remission. What are your diet restrictions?

    Gaining/maintain weight as T1D.

Oops - I meant to say my spikes are rarely more than 2.5 mmol higher than my before meal read, so usually no more than 8 mmol.

    Gaining/maintain weight as T1D.

Welcome to the forums Checshorts. This is an excellent place to learn, ask questions, and talk about our experiences. It helped me a immensely as in my physical world I am quite alone with diabetes. I too have found that keto is the solution whenever my blood sugars are unexpectedly erratic...
