    Lantus - Night time levels

If your blood sugar is dropping too low at night after taking your Lantus, adding more Lantus at that time will make it drop even lower. The morning rise could be dawn phenomena.

    Insulin and temperatures

If it's near freezing or less which happens most days where I live, I carry my insulin in a bag I hang around my neck and lies over my chest. I put the insulin there and wear it under my winter coat and under the top of my winter overalls.

Insulin requirements after pregnancy/constant low sugars!

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and welcome to the forum. In my opinion, as a Type 1, I agree with your team that you need to continue to lower the amount of insulin you take. If you do it one unit at a time, your blood sugar will eventually rise and you will learn your new carb to...

    Fatigue/ aches/ exhaustion

I have had periods in my diabetic past in which my diet was high-carb - after a month-long hospital stay and the recommended 'diabetic' diet was rich in carb; so I know I get joint inflammation in my hands to the point where I can hardly move them. My sister has rheumatoid arthritis and is not...

    Carb and insulin balance

I'm another Type 1 who low-carbs usually under 50 carbs per day but if I'm losing weight, I up it to over 50 and less than 75 (also upping my bolus) to bring me back to target weight. The reason I low-carb is because this keeps my blood sugar stable whereas anything over the 50 carb/day causes...

Not a good couple of days.

Actually, I'm completely unsure and undecided about what I believe, except that I do not believe in anything specific. I pray to something I can in no way understand. Praying took me out of the darkest times in my life and there have been many times I was more likely to die than live...

Taking Blood Glucose one hour or two hours?

Protein seems to affect my BSL too. Since going low-carb (<45 per day) I found that my insulin to carb ratio changed. When eating more carbs my ratio was 1 unit insulin to 10 carbs; now that I'm low-carb, it's 1 unit insulin to 5 carbs, and I think that's because of the protein. Dr Bernstein...

Not a good couple of days.

What a terrible situation. I can only sympathize, pray and hope, hope, hope life gets better for you. I always read your posts with great interest. They are so informative and useful to me too, though I am type 1. People here care deeply for you.

What Hba1c level do you aim for?

There are different types of anemia (not sure what I have but the iron pills work). The different kinds affect the HBA1C in different ways. That's all I remember but you can Google it.

What Hba1c level do you aim for?

No, at least not as far as I am aware, sometimes I have to deal with a blood requisition form so vast I don't bother with knowing what's going on. However; I usually only eat fruit (half an apple) when I'm hypo (maybe twice a month at most) and that makes me feel better in 15 minutes.

    Same food, different carbs?

Carb values are allowed a certain percentage of error. I doubt any two foods of the same kind and weight contain exactly the same amount of carbs, likewise for raw foods such as vegetables and fruit - some taste sweeter than others depending on ripeness etc. Now that I'm low-carb, I can even...

    Re: high morning numbers

Gowest, please don't worry about a health issue you don't have or you may find yourself under the bus! Worry is a bad habit that can also kill.

What Hba1c level do you aim for?

I put my emphasis on TIR 'time in range', because I have anemia and that skews HBA1C results, although I take strong iron pills, prior inaccuracies affected my trust level in the test. Also HBA1C is an average that does not indicate how high or low your blood sugar goes.

    Type 1 Afternoon Tea

Alternatively, you could eat food low enough in carb so that you would not have to bolus. I usually have boiled eggs and cheese with my tea when I don't want to take insulin.

    Help with working out 'spikes'

This is when taking your blood glucose right before eating and then 2 hours afterwards informs us how the food has affected us. Of course there will always be other factors involved, such as if you got stressed or angry while eating, you exercised between these two measurements etc - we can...

    Advice From 1975

I had my first taste of pizza when I was 17 and had never even heard of it before then. It was at that time that the first McDonald's appeared in our area. Always Mum's home cooking.
