    Excellent HBA1C -Thank you DCUK

Re: Excellent HBA1C -Thank you DCUK Absolutely well done! I was diagnosed with a hba1c of 55 by my gp in Jan 2013. Just had my follow up hba1c and am nervously waiting. I have not eaten sweets, cake, pasta, white bread, white rice, pastry, biscuit in 90 days and have watched carbs. Lost 2...

    burgeon bread

May I also echo what others have said about Warburtons thins. Really good if you fancy and sandwich. I load them wih anything from cheese, tuna, ham and they are a great filler with some nuts.

How do I know if I am doing it right?

Losing weight and exercising are probably the two best things you can do apart from obviously watching what you eat. So, it sounds like you are on the righ road. What was your first hba1c reading?

    Upcoming HBA1C

So, if my hba1c comes back as normal and my weight is normal and all my self test readings are normal will I still be a diabetic?

    A chocolate problem.

A regular size chocolate bar has little effect on my blood sugars after 2 hours.

    Upcoming HBA1C

Hello, I was diagnosed type 2 in January with a hba1c of 55 and GTT of 7.2 fasting and 13.2 after two hours. I have lost 25 lbs and cycle most days. Since then all of my fasting self tests are usually below 5 and whatever I eat I am usually down below 6.5 within two hours. Was my diagnosis...

    Breakfast ideas in a travelodge!

You should be ok with a full English. :) Personally though I would find the local cafe as it will be half the price. I can get away with two bacon, sausage, one egg, mushrooms, tinned tomatoes and one slice of wholemeal toast without too much trouble. In fact the above keeps me...

    Fruit and Cereals

Thanks guys. I was under the impression that you could eat grapefruit while on statins. The advice label means not to actually take the pill with grapefruit??? I could well be wrong though. In all honesty I am never over over 8.5 after two hours no matter what I eat. Cereals...

    Fruit and Cereals

Hi, I maintain pretty good control of my BS without meds, but seem to be hitting problems with most fruits and all breakfast cereals. Bananas literally make my BS go bananas. Up to around the 10 mark after an hour. Fruit and cereals mostly have me at about 7.5 to 8.5 after 2...

Just got first hba1c post diagnosis

My dr also told me not to low carb or self test. He also told me I will end up on metformin and insulin at some point. My first HBA1C was 55 which I know isn't a disaster by any stretch. I am exercising a lot and watching my carbs and so far have dropped 1 and a half stone and my 90 day...

    alcohol

I don't take any meds, but do find that if I have a few lagers or glasses of red wine that my blood sugars fall every time. Last time I tested after a few drinks I was 2.9 so decided a portion of fish n chips was in order.

    Which Meter?

I am convinced this Sd Codefree meter gives results anywhere from 1 to 2 above the norm. Fasting Aviva Nano I was 4.5 and SD Codefree I was 6.0 Going to stick with the Nano I think.

    Legs

I get pins and needles in my calves. It is loss of sensation and feels like no blood getting there. Sometimes I can watch the surface of the muscle twitching slightly. It usually lasts about 1/2 an hour. Burning across the tops of my big toes too and very slow to heal below the knee. In fact...

    Which Meter?

I agree. My SD is saying 6 most of the time, but when I test with my Accu Chek I am 4 to 4.5 Obviously, false high readings can be a very dangerous thing.

    Type2 ..exercise..and BG readings.

I am the same as you minus the metformin. I find if I exercise vigorously and take my blood sugar readings then it sometimes comes up in the 6's or high 5's. I can only assume the liver gives you a shot of glucose if you need it when exercising?

    Which Meter?

I was just wondering if any of you guys can recommend a good meter? Which ones have a good name for accuracy? I was using an Aviva Nano which i believe was accurate, but the strips are expensive. I switched to a SD codefree which has cheaper strips, but it appears to be reading high to me...

Confused , Upset and new diagnosed

Hi, I believe they should only perform the HBA1C test every 120 days to get completely accurate results. Is it your GP who did two so close together? A reading of 7.2 non fasting isn't too bad to be honest. Has your GP ordered you to take a GTT? I failed one of those and had an HBA1C of 55...

    Help!

Ok went out last night and had a few pints of lager which never spike me. I was at 5.1 when I got home. Had some toast and went to bed. Bread usually spikes me. When I got up I was 3.2, so I had a largish breakfast and two hours later was at 4.9 So as we have guests staying I ate a fair size...

    Help!

Thanks Sue. Do you take in any exercise? I try to get three good bike rides a week in and am convinced this has helped with my numbers. I am going to keep trying and testing bread and cereal until I come up with something that gets me back to 6 after two hours.

    Help!

I went to see my GP yesterday. He is pleased as I have lost a stone since diagnosis last month. 14 and 1/2 stones now and want to be 13 by start of Summer. He said to have another HBA1c done next month and we can take things from there. I asked him about my numbers two hours after eating and...
