    Covid vaccine

Thank you. I’m having the Pfizer.

    Covid vaccine

Hi I’m getting my first covid vaccine today (Australia) and I’m terrified. Not of the actual injection - diabetics are experts with needles but I’m so scared of side effects and blood sugar issues. Any advice :nailbiting:

    Random blood sugar drops

Yep. Heat can certainly cause adsorption rate issues but it’s winter here in Australia. Cold here at the moment. ;)

    Random blood sugar drops

Yeh. I spoke to my endo. He couldn’t explain it. I’m a very very anxious person so even stress may have contributed but I usually go high with stress but maybe today it did the opposite.

    Random blood sugar drops

Yes I agree that can happen. I do take my basal in the morning and also at night - split dose - but I don’t think that was the cause today. The injection was in normal fatty tissue and not into a muscle or blood vessel that I was aware of but I guess anything is possible. ??

    Random blood sugar drops

Very good point. It certainly didn’t act fast today. With the gastroparesis I tolerate liquids best so was taking my usual glucose drinks today. The glucose tabs don’t work fast enough for me but then nothing did today unfortunately.

    Random blood sugar drops

Yes I’ve heard of people who have ‘lantus lows’ .. It did happen soon after I took my basal but I use levemir which has a different mode of action to lantus so unlikely to have caused a sudden drop I would think.

    Random blood sugar drops

Thank you. Feel ok now but sugars have rebounded and are high now … always the way. And yep I did confirm the blood sugar with my meter. I was definitely dropping.

    Random blood sugar drops

Hi :) A few times in the last six months I have had a random dramatic blood sugar drop just as I’m eating breakfast. It’s the first thing I do each morning so there’s no active insulin or post exercise reason etc for it. I never pre bolus due to gastroparesis as well so can’t be the...

    MDI bleeders

I’m the same when a site feels painful when I put the needle in I stop before actually injecting the dose and I start again and inject elsewhere ;)

    MDI bleeders

I was on a pump for 9 years and started having such problems with the pump and scar tissue and adsorption I went back to injections 4 years ago.

    MDI bleeders

Yep I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about but just seems to happen more often these days. Might need to rotate more diligently as well.

    MDI bleeders

Yep I’m very thin and I still always pinch .. was taught that many many years ago and still follow that.

    MDI bleeders

I do change pen tip every time. Yes they do get blunt if we don’t.

    MDI bleeders

Seems to happen mostly with basal but not always. I’m a 38 year veteran of this disease so I think my technique is ok ;) …. But I will mention to my endo at next appointment

    MDI bleeders

Hi :) For MDI users how often do you get a bleeder after injecting ? For me it seems to happen at least once a day and I have around 6-8 injections ( novopen) a day most days. Sometimes there’s a lump after as well and sometimes there’s not. I find lately I’m holding a tissue at the site...

Dexcom G6 app and iOS updates

Hi :) Dexcom G6/ iPhone users : Do you update iOS even when not officially tested as compatible by Dexcom ? I find Dexcom are always so far behind in testing the latest iOS. I was on iOS 12.1 and hadn’t updated in ages as the most current iOS update was never on the dexcom compatible list here...

    Insulin pens

Strange hey !! Must be just how the pens work. I know the instruction manual says you may see a drop of insulin at the pen tip after injecting and it’s normal. Just seemed weird to me why it happens sometimes and not other times !

    Insulin pens

Hi all :) Just wondering why when using insulin pens - novopen echo in my case - there is sometimes a drop of insulin at the pen tip after the injection and sometimes there’s not ???? I always prime the pens and watch the plunger move down as I give the injection so I know it’s not blocked and...
