Never been much of a pudding person anyway, I’ve only just got my first figures back after a 6 month check and they are all fine

How can I get my wife to understand diabetes ?

She borrows my meter too to test herself so apart from the readings I note myself I have no clean record to take to the GP

How can I get my wife to understand diabetes ?

I’m fine with a Shredded Wheat for brekkies, only a thin slice of bread with my Omelette, I’d have preferred wholemeal but she’d made white today. I’m usually fine with wholemeal as I don’t eat a lot anyway. She is prediabetic and BMI 35+ whereas I am 25 and type 2 after Pancreatitis last Easter.

How can I get my wife to understand diabetes ?

It’s just being used as a whipping post, we had a Chinese for a treat tonight and I had light batter sweet and sour chicken as a treat with mushrooms and veggie chow mein as I only had a shredded wheat which doesn’t spike me and then an omelette with ham and cheese for lunch with a thin slice of...

    Time between tablets

That’s interesting, I haven’t seen the GP since switching to SR, so I might try taking both pills in the evening and see if it helps with my gut during the day as I get IBS type pains.

    Metformin side effects

I have IBS as well and the slow release Metformin whilst better are still causing issues, I take a precautionary Loperamide if I’m going out and always keep a couple in my wallet. I’ve found taking Peppermint Oil capsules helps, I only take one in the morning usually.

    Fasting

I try and stick to wholemeal or wholemeal and Rye, and only one slice. Preferably home made or from a local artisan baker so it doesn’t have all the other stuff the supermarkets put in, I felt naughty last week so had a sausage baguette , about 15 cm - sugars up to 14, Wholemeal I stay in the 8...

When I started 2x metformin got right bad diorhhea again.

I've been having big problems with Metformin too so you have my sympathy. I've just changed to the modified release yesterday so we'll see if that helps. I'm hoping that when my bloods settle down and I figure out what is going on I may be able to reduce or stop taking them, as I was only...

    Metformin Blues

One of my friends did the Mongol Rally on a Sinnis 125. He got as far as Kazakstan before he fell off, broke his thumb and dislodged a kidney stone he didn't know he had! So we got him home, leaving the bike there. He tried again the next year via a different route and got arrested at the...

    Metformin Blues

That’s really helpful. I’m windy too, with IBS type cramps, and I have been taking some Colpermin (Peppermint Oil) , I will try and get an appointment with my GP to see if he will change my prescription.

    Newly diagnosed

You are doing really well Tanmc. I’m new too, and am low carbing. Did you find the 10 week low carb program on here yet ? I found that helpful. I’ve been on 4 x 500mg Metformin for about a month now, and testing every couple of days as I figure it will take time for my body to adjust so no need...

I agree .. in part .. but the reason for the metering is to keep you out of hospital, one night in would cost more than a meter and strips surely

    Newbie

Hi Lucy, I was given a meter when I was admitted to hospital at Easter for Pancreatitis. So ask for one when you see the diabetic nurse, also you are entitled to free Prescriptions as a diabetic so I am getting my lancets and strips free.

Newly Diagnosed - Doctor says Meds forever..

I'm in a similar boat, but after a Pancreatitis. My GP was incredibly blasé, don't bother testing, don't go for blood tests, diabetes clinic will pick you up. I've changed to a low carb diet and since I'm on the system at my local hospital I'm taking myself back for HBA1c tests every 3 months...

Hi I'm Rob, just diagnosed at 56 following Pancreatitis. I'm starting Metformin today, as I'm a consistent 12 after fasting. I'm early retired a couple of years ago having worked in IT for 30 plus years, 26 of which with IBM. I have a lovely wife, two fantastic boys who are 21 and 25, and a...
