Prediabetes Do you find managing blood sugar takes a lot of effort?

Hi, for me avoiding carbs takes a lot of planning. I don't know whether it takes up any more of my time because I've always been someone who thinks about food a lot (what to make, what to buy, who sells the nicest produce, etc.). These days I have to think outside the box a bit more and it's...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

My (new) GP was a bit perplexed but ok with it. Maybe he thinks I'm one of those control-freak type women who counts every calorie and tuts at people who eat junk. I don't, I'm just trying to repair the damage and make up for lost time.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Husband has requested spaghetti for this evening and given all the low-carb meals that he's been shovelling down without complaint, I'll give it a whirl (with a meatball sauce) but I'll be sure to cook it al dente and only have a starter-sized portion (of the spaghetti, I mean, not the meatballs...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Hello everyone, Yesterday: B/L: fry-up D: stir fry with strips of pork marinated in soy/mirin/hoisin/sesame oil/chili flakes with frozen wok mix, carrot, red pepper and broccoli. I pre-steamed the frozen wok mix which meant I didn't get a waterlogged wok. I also steamed the carrot and broccoli...

Additional personal costs of Diabetes care

The extra costs for me (for the moment) are strips and little luxuries for my LCHF diet. It's actually quite scary how easy and cheap carbs are and how much I took them for granted to pad out my diet. I don't eat more meat than usual but other things like cream, cheese, berries and nuts etc are...

    Cashews

Just did a test with cashews roasted in sunflower oil and salted. They took me from 6.0 to 6.5 after 2 hours. Not the worst reading ever but I need to test with plain ones. It'll give me an excuse to check out the new Lidl that's opened ;-)

    Positives of having diabetes?

I'm new to this so for me it's more a case of what I hope will happen now I'm watching my BS (and eating LCHF): - weight loss, so I look better and can buy my clothes in normal shops instead of making compromises in the very few outsized clothing stores here (or ordering online from the UK); -...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Had the burgers last night, they were yum and very filling. Also had "apéricubes" for an aperitif (little cubes of dairylea type cheese with various flavours, wrapped in different colours - I can see that another brand sells something similar in the UK :-)) and a few glasses of bourbon and...

    Lost the plot

Sounds very very nice and I'm sorry that you're unable to find it for yourself. I hope it's only temporary x

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Breakfast: my usual fromage blanc but spiked with extra cream, with broken raspberries Lunch (planned): tomato soup, mandarin, maybe some goat's cheese wrapped in ham Dinner (planned): burgers (100% beef) with cheese, bacon, tomato, etc with buns for husband, without buns for me

    Lost the plot

I used to be like that but I'm trying hard to break the pattern. It isn't easy when tiredness or stress strike! I do cave from time to time but I get back on the horse. I'm trying hard to resist this time because I feel I've been granted a reprieve with my recent HbA1c, which could have been a...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Last night: lamb chops, green beans in butter and garlic (and a sneaky handful of "knepfle" - Alsatian noodle type things) This morning: two pots of fromage blanc topped with whipped cream Planned for lunch: salad (mix of lamb's lettuce and beetroot strands) with chicken liver confit Planned for...

    Crying all night.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time, hopefully a good cry has done you some good. I'm prone to awful anxiety in the very early morning, imagining disaster scenarios in every area of my life while husband snores softly next to me! It's horrible. The best thing is to get up and read a book/tablet...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Do! Cooking the veg separately with various aromatics and then mixing them together makes a real difference.

Type 2 Need a little help

Hi, as one of those people that spends a lot of time thinking about (and eating) food I can really recommend the LCHF lifestyle. There are many possibilities for great meals and after a few weeks of cutting down I no longer get uncontrolled cravings, digest my food a lot better and have lost a...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Sure! I used Gordon Ramsey's espresso panna cotta recipe as a basis as I'm happy with the quantities of gelatine, milk and cream. 3 sheets of leaf gelatine (maybe you can get sachets of powdered gelatine? Here one sachet = 3 sheets) 400ml double cream (the cream I get and use here in France is...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Last night: salmon with almost-ratatouille (red and yellow peppers simmered with tomato, oregano and shallots + courgettes fried with garlic and then all simmered together) Panna cotta with lemon zests infused in the hot cream and truvia to sweeten. This morning: fry-up

    Very good news for me...

I had a HbA1c result the other day which was much better than I was expecting but some of my fasting and post-meal tests tell a different story. I'm happy to evade an official diagnosis but will consider myself diabetic.
