    Diabetes can be 'cured' ??

And I have just had sardines, piccolo toamtoes and mature cheddar cheese toasted on a slice of toasted Burgen bread with olive oil and black pepper - and very tasty it was too! :D

    Diabetes can be 'cured' ??

We are all unique and it is clear from reading around the forum that if there was one root cause it would be very apparent. It follows that it is unlikely that there will be one ‘cure-all’. Unfortunately so many people are really desperate for a cure and others are just looking for a quick fix...

Don’t panic if your letter says “significant changes” !

Before diagnosis one of the main symptoms I really suffered from was blurry eyesight so I visited my husband’s optician who pointed me in the right direction to get the medical help I needed. After diagnosis of diabetes in September 2009 I was fortunate to find this site in October and followed...

    tablets

Lots of us have discovered that it isn't just the sugars but all the carbs. I have seriously cut out as much of the starchy carbs as I can so have not been eating bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc. Porridge has been my biggest sacrifice but I have managed to get my levels right down. I eat...

Oh dear, that is disappointing for you! :( Have you changed your diet at all since diagnosis? If so, how and what are you eating?

Is it all in the Genes? Type 2.

I have had it explained to me as mutation. This is actually a loss of the information code within the DNA, which deals with insulin resistance amongst other things, and means that we can no longer manage glucose as we were designed to do. As someone who does not fit the pre-conceived notion of...

    Confused and Scared

Hi Fencer :) It is early days as yet! Just follow the advice on this forum in order to get your numbers down to where they are safe and it will be quicker than you think if you work at it. You just need the advice to newbies posted by Ken and Sue and a carb book to work out what is the best...

    my first week lower carbs

PS Suddenly realised I hadn't really answered your question! I have cut my carb intake down and done all the testing before and after eating so that I know how my body is coping with my food. It works!! :D Tried Burgen bread for the first time this week and was delighted that 1 slice is...

    my first week lower carbs

Hello again Lister :) I was totally lost until I found this forum and it really saved my sanity and got me on the right track. My last Hba1c in Feb '10 was 5.5 but although I haven't had another done since  I keep an eye on what I am eating and hopefully it will be about the same when...

    Burgen

I re-discovered my sandwich toaster the other day so decided to try one using burgen bread. It was really good :D - but I just wish that you could make just a half slice sandwich as it is very hard to give away the half of it that I can’t manage!! :(

    Insulin resistance

Hi Carol The first comment I would make is that we are all different and we may well all be able to tell a very different story about how we came to this place where we have diabetes. I don't think that everyone suffers from insulin resistance. Some of us are overweight, some of us may never...

    'Dodgy' immune system & diabetes.

Hi Cole :) I would recommend a good naturopath as they work on the whole person and not just on your symptoms. I had an increasingly bad time with problems just like yours until I consulted a naturopath who helped me enormously, working on everything for over a year before I felt that my...
