    Calling all pumpers!

Hi Anthony, I'm getting my pump fitted tomorrow (gulp!) and all I do all day long is ponder about where it will sit, will it fit in my bra, what about when I wear my posh full length gown to an event in a few months and will have no waist band to clip it to, etc, etc - I need to get out more...

    help needed, T1 elderly lady

Hi, would probably need to know what kind of long acting insulin? and what the lady eats? Also, how long has she been type 1 for? Hard to advise without BG info, I am hoping her DN's will have some info about her medical/diabetic background........

clubs for children to meet other diabetic children

it's weird isn't it, where are all the type 1 children?! when I was diagnosed, I was introduced to 1 girl at my school who was in the 6th form (the head teacher arranged a meeting in her office which was nice of her!) and the school also put my Mum in touch with her Mum - but out of approx 1000...

    Don't you just hate it?

Hi Sophia, I relate to your post! I think we all do in some way, old or young, it's each day at a time some times, what worked on a Monday last week doesn't always work next Monday :x I know it sucks but keep testing Jess and correct when you need to, it's all you can do, especially when she is...

    Thirsty during the night

Hi ya, I have spent many an afternoon in my GP's office insisting that my frequent trips to the loo were due to my diabetes, even though I had fab hba1c results etc, etc! after my 5th visit, I switched docs and got told 'irritable bladder' which is a bit like irritable bowel, but with the...

    Calling all pumpers!

how weird, I was just thinking about that! I don't know that my pump would fit in the bra I have on today, it's a very flat, tshirt bra?! but then others I have have a thicker strap between the cups (if that makes sense!) and I think that my pump may sit in between very nicely  Also, have...

    Sharps bin collection

you can also get a little 'cutter' gizmo on prescription which slices the needle off the end of the plastic bit it sits in, then if you have left the lid on there is no sharp part. I have never had an 'official' sharps disposal bin but I have found with the cutter you can keep the needle tips...

    how low BG ?

I would imagine that adults and children alike, anything below 4 is cause for concern (with type 1) and anything below 2 is a bit on the scary side. I must say however, I am very impressed your 5 year old tests herself, what an angel! But is it possible she is not using enough blood? although...

    Calling all pumpers!

 if only my clothes had pockets! seriously, I've been mentally scanning my wardrobe, distinct lack of clothes with belts or pockets (apart from Jeans, which I can't wear to work!) I wear far too many dresses me thinks 8)

Do you think Universities do enough to cater for diabetics?

Is that true?! Blimey, need to tell my dentist, he goes nuts at me as all the coffee I drink stains my teeth! do I now have a reason to tell him it's medicinal?! hope so

Do you think Universities do enough to cater for diabetics?

Lucie - you rock! those kids in the halls are lucky to have you keeping an eye on them :D Muhammed - good luck with your education! I'm all for us Diabetics standing up for ourselves so speak to your tutors about hypo's etc and how they can affect your concentration and see if they will make...

    Just out of hospital, DKA

you poor love. Sounds like quite an ordeal you've been through! Glad to hear you are at home and are on the mend. DKA can pounce on you even though you haven't had ketones for days and days, so I can understand your confusion. In fact, my DN's tell me that when I get my pump, as I will be having...

Who has actually had a complication?

Hi Newbie! thankfully, the tools available to your son now have come on in leaps and bounds over the years so some long term type 1's will unfortunately, not have had the tools in order to keep such a close eye on their BG's over the years. Some, equally unfortunately will have done everything...

    Injecting in public

can you get disposable pens? I use disposable and the little purple lid needle cover stays on with the lid on? definitely worth getting if you can :) I'm with you on the testing kits though, although the little bag I use to carry it all has a red lining now, ha ha! I too was fed up with seeing...

Who has actually had a complication?

you missed off the  , I was chuckling ie: saying it was cheery but really, it isn't because of the very nature of what can/could/will/does happen. Personally, I like to keep my glass half full but I am fully aware I am lucky to have made it this far without any major issues. Onwards and...

Who has actually had a complication?

what a cheery post  no complications for me so far, other than background retinopathy 2 years ago which made me sit up and take notice! managed to get rid so fingers crossed it will stay away  last hba1c was 6.1, up a notch from previous 5.7 but that was good as had been...
