A Day in the Life of your Diabetes

Type 1 for 26 years, age 39 Yesterday, my day went like this: Woke at 6am, tested, 7.6 (bit higher than I like but I'm happy as it means I can drive to work without stressing) 7.45am, arrive at work, test again, still in the sevens so all groovy 8.30am - porridge (made with water) and strawbs...

what does everyone use to get cannula sticky plaster off?

Re: what does everyone use to get cannula sticky plaster off I have the Accu Chek pump and I don't use anything to get the 'sticky stuff' off as there is zero residue left (on me). I was, however, sent some samples of sprays to remove such residue via my pump rep. Never used them though! Hope...

    Help... The fasting test saga

agreed, stick with one and then it will become apparent which one is causing the problem! I messed around with my basal for ages until I had a total lighbulb moment and realised it was, in fact, my ratio that was the issue,. Another top tip (courtesy of my DSN!) is to resist the need to test and...

    Help... The fasting test saga

Hi ya, so much to write, so little time! Top tip - when fasting, you don't actually have to not eat, just don't eat carbs! I have this as (sound!) advice from my pump rep when I first got my pump. She suggested steak and a small green salad or a x1 egg/cheese omelete (without milk). When I fast...

    Mild Hypos & Jelly Babies

thanks! I'm usually floating about reading posts but been crazy busy at work for what seems like ages, lol! Felt akin to this Jelly baby post after my hypo last night however, so felt the need to add my tuppence worth ;-) Hope all is well with you :D

    Mild Hypos & Jelly Babies

Jelly babies are my friend. I woke last night in the middle of a crashing low (had been running, almost expected it which is just madness in itself) was alone so I managed to get up, grab my jelly babies from inside the drawer next to the bed and within seconds (no exageration!) I felt them hit...

Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pump?

Re: Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pum reading all these replies makes me realise how lucky I am to have a good Hba1c (6.1) and also have a pump, given without question and limited obstacles from my PCT. Before the pump I would have said injections were the way for me but...

Do I have more than 30 Years?

Hi Vickstar, hope you are well. Your reply makes me really sad as you are so young and are clearly struggling with being type 1. Might I suggest you speak to another Doctor? I don't know if that is possible in your area but sometimes GP's can be more or less helpful than a registrar at a...

Being Bullied by my Diabetes and my boss!

Hi there, so sorry to hear about the tough time you've been having of late, I truly hope it gets better for you soon! As you ar a relative 'newbie' I think the best advise I can give you is to not expect to have it all sorted over night :-) learning to avoid/deal and treat hypo's takes time and...

    Healthy long term type 1's

I'm 26 years in and a pump user for the past 2 years, no major problems in terms of an 'opathies but the usual hypo issues can become a bit of a bore. Hopefully, your little one will benefit from having a pump so early on and his long term BG control will benefit from that. It's not always an...

    Does anyone have any suggestions???

are you setting your alarm to test at night? If you have done, are you able to pin point when you are going so low? I would advise trying to sort the night time basal first as usually bolus/carbs are not around to confuse the situation. Once that is sorted, onto the next 6 hours (6am to midday)...

    Does anyone have any suggestions???

If you have lost weight, your basal WILL need to be adjusted. If you are getting normal fasting results which show your basal rate is correct then you should adjust your bolus ratio, not forgetting to look at the insulin sensitivity. Are you waking with night time hypos? are you performing the...

how many T1s use low carb diet

thanks! been pumping for 2 years now, best thing ever, think everyone should have one (I know, I know, not everyone can get them but they are marvellous!!)

how many T1s use low carb diet

Hi there, I don't low carb on purpose but since using a pump, I do find I tend to skip the carb option of the meal, particularly if I am not preparing it myself. However, I won't skip dessert if I fancy something sweet! it really varies from day to day. I remember the 'exchanges' and I was...

Any long term Type 1's not needed paramedics

Hi Geri, my overall dosage went down but in particular, since carb counting (which I needed to learn before they would give me a pump) I now know I only need a tiny amount of bolus and this can vary depending on what time of day it is. For example, my carb to insulin ratio is 1-10 in the morning...

Any long term Type 1's not needed paramedics

How big are you? How big are they? Not in terms of being overweight (although that is a factor too) but if there is more of you, you tend to need more insulin. Since being on a pump I take approx 15 units per day, combination of basal/bolus. I'm 5'8 and and quite slim but also quite active so my...

    Pizza

I am the same as most of the posters, have tried multiwave bolus and extended bolus on my pump and I just can't get it right! I actually don't eat a lot of shop bought pizza for this very reason and can't remember the last time I had a pizza delivered as the lack of BG control annoys me too...
