    Libre 2 disposal

There is no reason why the clear lid needs to go in a biohazard bag (provided it hasn't been touched by any bodily fluids). Abbott recommend that once the sensor applicator has been used to apply a sensor, the clear lid is screwed back onto the applicator. So it makes sense to dispose of the...

    Libre 2 disposal

I'm attaching below a link to some information published by NHS England (London) which appears to have been provided to Libre users, CCGs (as they were then known) and local authorities based in London, following discussions with Abbott in 2018 concerning how the component parts of the Freestyle...

    Libre 2 disposal

I agree with everything you say above. Nevertheless, in the United Kingdom a used flash or continuous glucose monitor sensor is considered to be potentially infectious medical waste. As such, it should be disposed of by placing it in a sharps bin. And I say again, in the UK medical waste is...

    Libre 2 disposal

A Libre sensor's "filament" is inserted into the skin. The "filament" has chemicals applied to it that the sensor uses in part to measure the concentration of glucose in the interstitial fluid found under the skin where the sensor is inserted in order to give a glucose reading. Because the...

    Libre 2 disposal

Neither my integrated care system/integrated care board (the former clinical commissioning group) nor my local council will provide adequately sized sharps bins. The largest sharps bin available to me is one of those flat, squat 1 litre sharps bins (and yes, my ICS/ICB and local council are...

Freestyle Libre 2 Reader and 4th Libre 2 sensor in a row failed to provide high/low glucose alarms

I had a successive batch of faulty sensors which Abbott replaced. The Libre 2 Reader they sent me appears to be working fine now. There remains a problem with no low or high glucose alarms and scanning issues with the Freestyle Librelink app on some Android phones and some models of iPhone.

Freestyle Libre 2 Reader - Does it work?

@DiabeticDean I believe that in Canada the appropriate regulator for medical devices is called the Medical Devices Directorate.

Freestyle Libre 2 Reader - Does it work?

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having. If you live in the UK and you believe the problems you are having may have caused you to delay diagnosing or treating low or high blood glucose, please consider filing a Yellow Card incident with the UK medical devices regulator the Medicines and...

Freestyle Libre 2 - constant false signal loss alarms

That is why I believe the time has now come for anyone who lives in the UK who believes faulty sensors, or faulty Freestyle Librelink phone app software, may be delaying you self-diagnosing and treating hypoglycaemia or hyperglycaemia should consider making a formal Yellow Card report to the UK...

    Libre alarms not working.

You shouldn't have to rely on third party software and third party products, none of which has been submitted to the official, government-backed UK medical device regulator (the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) to be scrutinised to check that they work and are safe and then...

    Libre alarms not working.

@SueJB I didn't have any problems getting Abbott to send me a Libre 2 Reader. If you are using the Freestyle Librelink app on your phone and you are having problems at the moment with getting low or high glucose alarms, or issues scanning with Librelink on your mobile, you should be able to...

Freestyle Libre 2 - constant false signal loss alarms

I hope Abbott can sort this out quickly too. It shouldn't have taken two months (and counting). Microsoft have in the past occasionally made a hash of doing a major update to Windows, or a security patch for Windows, which has made some third party peripheral devices and apps not work or work...

Freestyle Libre 2 - constant false signal loss alarms

@MikeEno 13. Yes, I have had similar explanations given to me by Abbott Customer Service staff since their Freestyle Librelink app was updated twice in Google Play store. An internet search will tell you that "bluetooth low energy" (which is the technology that cgms use to communicate with...

    Libre - NIGHTMARE!!!!

I'm sure this has been mentioned before in other threads, but it is worth saying again. My understanding is that it is a well known flaw with intermittent or continuous glucose monitors that when one's glucose is changing - up or down - so rapidly, they will for a short period (usually in the...

    Libre alarms not working.

@Grandadfatboy don't be too harsh on Samsung. When you buy a mobile phone you pay to receive for a period of time upgrades to your mobile's operating system, as well as security patches. Those upgrades and security patches are supposed to make your mobile phone more stable and less vulnerable to...

Type 2 Where can I buy an Freestyle Libre 3 (UK)

@Rhomulous The Libre 3 isn't on prescription (in England). A diabetic resident in England can only get the Libre 3 after a diabetes consultant has recommended that a diabetes patient would benefit from the Libre 3. Even then, my understanding is that in my local health authority (integrated...

    Libre - NIGHTMARE!!!!

I agree in large measure with what @inResponse has said. I am a die hard Freestyle Libre person. It works really well with my body chemistry (when I compare it to a bloodstick test). I prefer it to the Dexcom, not least because I do not want to have to try to dispose of the significant...

Freestyle Libre 2 - constant false signal loss alarms

Don't be too hard on the customer services/technical support staff you have spoken to Alastair. Anyone who has worked in the corporate world knows that these staff will have been given a script - probably after consultation with the legal department- which they are required to stick to very...

Freestyle Libre 2 - constant false signal loss alarms

The issues appear to have been caused by a combination of Abbott updating its Librelink app - twice - in November and December 2022, some smartphone manufacturers updating the Android operating system from 12 to 13 and Apple updating its iPhone operating system, also in October/November/December...

Freestyle Libre 2 Reader and 4th Libre 2 sensor in a row failed to provide high/low glucose alarms

Have just had my 4th Libre 2 sensor fail to provide high/low glucose alarms since I started (96 hours ago) using my new Freestyle Libre 2 Reader that Abbott sent me last week. According to Abbott Customer Services there is still no scheduled date for when they will issue an update which will...
